So I’m one lecture in to my FAR re-study and bored out of my mind.

Just curious about the whole “conservative” image accountants seem to have. When I had a mid-life crisis and changed my career to accounting, I also got a tattoo. My tramp stamp is a shamrock on my shoulder. Maybe I should have gotten a dollar sign or a T-account.

Do you have a tattoo? What? Where?

(Jeff may delete this. It is not CPA related. Like I said, I am bored.)

@CPA – Maybe, but remember, age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill. 😉

I am considering tattooing the word PROMETRIC on my chest and the CA Board of Accountancy logo on my back. Then add the A71 ninja on my left shoulder. I will be a badass accountant.

That's an interesting article Kricket. I'm shocked that I wouldn't be allowed to work at Subway because I have two holes in each ear. All my hopes and dreams just went up in smoke. 🙂

Back in the day when I was in high school, I used to frown upon with people with tattoos but have since loosened up a lot. Today I am totally cool with it, as long as they like it then its ok. I don't like it however, when people go extreme with tattoos though. I personally don't have any tattoos and don't plan on getting any.

ok, question, forget tattoos, what about tongue ring? I have one, and i used to take it out during interviews. I worked for a lawyer for years and he noticed it on year 3 probably, just because i laughed once. He was ok with it.

My issue with tongue rings is when people play with them while you're having a conversation. That's annoying. Many of the people that I know that have one constantly move it around in their mouth, but I think that may be younger people trying to draw attention to it. Just having one is not a big deal at all.

I'm going to out on a limb here because I have a feeling most of the women in a conservative field of accounting have no idea how awful mens thoughts are.

Tramp Stamp = “Target”… and I don't mean the store

Tongue Ring = “more willing”, don't know the words needed to keep it PG.

Take it or leave it, but I wouldn't want my kids or sisters getting either…I try to be a reasonable (non-pig) human being, but that's the general first thing that pops in most every man's head the second they see either of those things.

If you haven't considered that, please do before moving forward with your plans.

I'm sure Skynet could have worded this more eloquently…well that's a word for it.

^^ Honest post. The reality is that the world (and the business world is part of that) is not as evolved as some might think. Obviously, men having those thoughts about a woman based on a tattoo are the problem…not necessarily the tattoo itself. Men don't need an excuse to objectify anyone. But I agree that people should be aware of how something is going to be perceived in the real world (as terrible/unfair/chauvinistic as that perception might be) before making these sort of decisions.

If your employers can see your tramp stamp then you need to buy longer shirts or stop wearing low riding pants to work.

What i'm trying to say is that I regret my bro stamp… women keep drooling over me.

i was actually thinking the tongue ring being inappropriate/unprofessional more from my prospective as an employee, i was not ever thinking that my employer thought i was a “thing” for wearing it (nor he ever showed anything even remotely close). I used to play with the ring… when i was 18. Now its just there, and even when people (who i dont work with) notice it and say things like “oh, show it” i just smile and and pretend i ddnt hear that. Again, i loved to show it off… when i was 18. not anymore though.

in a corporate environment, now i will say, a lady with a full face mascaraed makeup and D cup plunging neckline is saying to me “more willing” than a tongue ring, IMHO. And i've seen plenty of those lol

Now wait a second, can't everyone appreciate a decent plunging neckline!?!

After I took radio active iodine last year to kill the thyroid cancer cells, I lost my sense of taste and most of my salivary glands. I can taste a few things, but not everything. My mouth also stays dry constantly. My doctor told me that if it didn't bother me and I wasn't a total chicken, that a tongue ring would help with the dry mouth. It won't bring back my taste buds, but I won't have to walk around with a glass in my hand constantly. But I'm a great big chicken so, yeah, no to the tongue ring. If someone asks about it or has something negative to say about it, just tell them you got it for medical reasons that are protected by HIPPA. They will probably never say another word about it.
