InactiveSo I’m one lecture in to my FAR re-study and bored out of my mind.
Just curious about the whole “conservative” image accountants seem to have. When I had a mid-life crisis and changed my career to accounting, I also got a tattoo. My tramp stamp is a shamrock on my shoulder. Maybe I should have gotten a dollar sign or a T-account.
Do you have a tattoo? What? Where?
(Jeff may delete this. It is not CPA related. Like I said, I am bored.)

MemberWould it be lame to get a tattoo of my CPA license number? At least that's something I don't think I would get tired of!

InactiveI wanna get a KC Royals tat (small) on my upper back near my right shoulder….not really sure though. I have never had a tattoo…it's more of kind of a “if I got one, that's what I would get” thing.

InactiveI think I'll get a Cash T account between my shoulders once I pass this thing.
In the mean time, maybe I'll get eyeballs tattoo'd on the outside of my eyelids so I can sleep at work and no one will notice!

MemberI have a friend who used to be an artist for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (they're from my hometown!). When the Turtles were no longer a “thing,” he turned to tattoo art. He's extremely talented. In 2003, we made a deal that he would give me a tattoo for free for my birthday in November. I said I'd take him up on it if the Red Sox won the World Series that year.
Unfortunately for them but perhaps fortunately for me, the Red Sox lost game 7 of the ALCS to the hated Bronx Bombers, due to an extra-inning walk off home run by Aaron Boone (of ALL people!) off of knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield. So fate intervened, and I never got my Red Sox tattoo. By 2004 I had met my future husband, and he had no interest in me getting a tattoo so when the Sox won in '04, I was off the hook since I had made no such similar commitment to permanently decorate myself in the event of a World Series win.
Long story short, I was thisclose to getting a tattoo in 2003 but it never happened.

ParticipantThis thread is fun. I have a quarter sleeve tattoo. When I was in Public Accounting, I hid it at all times. Which was so sad during summer months when all the other ladies were wearing cute short sleeved shirts. Now I work for a very relaxed REIT… my controller thinks it's awesome… my CFO hasn't seen it. 🙂
@kmwgrace – haha, awesome story and I LOVED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

MemberThis thread is interesting! I have three all from over ten years ago. Then it was fun….today not so much. At least for me they don't work anymore so no more for me! As a woman it is hard during the hot months when all the women can wear cute short sleeves and I can't. One of mine is visible in anything shorter than an elbow sleeve length….SIIIGGGGHHH. And I would never show them at work, nor at any of my kids functions. Also I am from the west, but live in the midwest now so I think there is big difference on acceptance. The west is much more laid back and appreciates it as art. I feel like the midwest is still pretty judgmental. I am an accomplished, well educated career person but here if I am wearing a tank top I feel like I get the “white trash” looks. Annoying. So just my two cents, I would encourage my kids to get them in more hidden locations than mine if they insist. But I would really hope anyone that wants one works for a few years in their profession first and get a feel for it.

I always puzzle myself. Why people tattoo their bodies?

MemberI don't have any yet. My husband has 3, and my oldest son has 2. They got tattoos together for my husband's last birthday.
I am planning to get one either this fall or next spring. It will be (well) hidden, so I will still be able to wear short sleeve shirts (I don't wear tank tops anyway.) My husbands are hidden because the 2 on his arms were from his Army days, and the last one went on his shoulder. My son's is across the top of his back, and the other is on his shoulder. He listened to his mom who said to keep them wear he can still wear short-sleeve shirts in the professional world.
My first will be across my lower back. I don't know if I will get anymore after that.

MemberI have 4 tattoos and also have my belly button and nose pierced. All my tats are able to be covered. I do have one on my calf but I was never much for wearing skirts anyway. I finally decided that I wouldn't be happy working in a place that required me to wear skirts so I went ahead and got it. I love all my tattoos and they all mean something. I tend to get them right around 2 years apart. Guess it takes me that long to figure out something I will always be happy with. So far, my nose ring hasn't been an issue. I got it a few years ago and am still working for the same company. I could always take it out if it were a problem so it didn't bother me to get it.

MemberIt's about the ten year reunion of my “tramp stamp”. I still like it though because I designed it, plus I never have to look at it. 🙂 Little Moe's post regarding the nose ring was interesting to me too because my employer is a little more strict. I do not have a nose ring, but the upper cartilage of my ear is pierced. Usually I don't wear it to work, but often after Thursday night pool league or on a Monday after the weekend I'll forget to take it out. One particular Friday I wore it and was talking to my boss, and he was continually staring at it. Then he asked how long I had it (which is about 12 years). We continued on with the discussion, but he kept staring. Finally I asked if he'd like me to remove it, to which he replied he didn't care, but the customers might, so I did. I didn't say anything, although I hardly deal with customers. However, I thought this was incredibly close minded and actually wear it more often now.

MemberI have a very meaningful tat on my inner wrist that I have had for about 2 years now. I work at an insurance co. that would probably frown on it but I didn't care to ask. I would have quit my job rather than not get it, so figured I would just see how it went. I'm basically stuck in a cube all day so its not like anyone really sees it. I want to get another much larger one in July, across my back though, so that will be easily covered.

InactiveOk, so I've decided I want to get my first ink work done after I pass this exam. I've never even considered getting a tattoo until I received my passing score from FAR. I was thinking of doing my license number with some tribal or Samoan design that covers my left shoulder or wraps around my bicep. Maybe do the numbers in my ethnicity (Chinese)
I don't start work until the fall, so I won't be able to apply for my license until a couple years of experience. Any other ideas? Am I crazy?
