Took REG today, just BRUTAL. First testlet was tough, but manageable. Second one, WTF!!!! I must have flagged about half of the 24, ended up having to just flat-out guess on maybe 5 or 6 of them. I seriously have no idea where in sam h#ll they pulled some of those questions from, because they weren’t anywhere in Becker or Wiley (I went back and looked). Third testlet was also hard, though clearly not as bad as the second one (so that’s not a good sign). Had to guess on a bunch of those too. I also made some dumb mistakes on the few in that testlet that weren’t impossible, making things even more difficult for myself. The testlets today also managed to ask THREE different questions about the exact same obscure (and I stress OBSCURE) topic in two different testlets, which I think is insane considering the breadth of other material they could test us on and on how little this topic was covered in Becker. Is that not completely illogical?

And the SIMS. O-M-G. Seriously, I don’t understand where they come up with this stuff. Two of them weren’t bad, one was tough (but fair), whereas the rest were completely obscure and specific. It wasn’t even possible to prepare for SIMS like these because THEY WEREN’T ANYWHERE IN THE STUDY MATERIALS. I’ll say no more, but I’m really ticked about that, are they serious? Finally, the research question was about two paragraphs long (LOL), but I did manage to get it after ten minutes of searching for it.

This was just an absolutely, positively, ridiculously hard test today. Based on my multiple choice performance (particularly in the second and third testlets) and based on my botching of at least two (and possibly a third) of the SIMS, I’m pessimistic about doing enough to get a 75 or higher. I don’t mean to whine, but I’m a little annoyed because like most of the rest of you, I studied my tail off for this over a span of two months, easily putting in close to 200 hours between Becker and Wiley. I know they can’t test us on everything, but I just can’t believe they’d ask multiple questions on the EXACT same obscure topic while not even touching several other supposed “heavily” tested areas. Seems like an excessive triple whammy “gotcha” penalty for not knowing such a minor detail about something so insignificant (I wish I could be more specific, it would make so much more sense if I could but I’m not allowed to disclose it). Rant over! I hope everyone else who took an exam today had a better experience than I did.

    BEC: 87 (7/13/11)
    FAR: 86 (8/31/11)
    AUD: 99 (10/6/11)
    REG: 88 (11/30/11)
    Ethics: 100
    (Illinois)

Used Becker for all four parts. Supplemented it with Wiley Test Bank for FAR and REG (HIGHLY recommended) and NINJA notes.

    @letsfixthis,

Since Audit comes so natural to you, do you want to become an auditor one day?

@julia_z: My AUD score was really just pure luck of the draw. I ended up getting a really easy version of the exam on testing day, and I probably over-studied for it anyway. I remember the SIMS being particularly basic for some reason. In real life I don't know anything about auditing 🙂

@reyortdor and @kandisjoy: Thanks for the words of encouragement, I'm hoping for the best but trying not to get my hopes up too much. I'll definitely keep you guys posted.

@happy75: Sorry to hear about BEC and REG, I agree that they are too short (and AUD is definitely too long). I think REG should be at least a half hour longer. Keep your head up, best of luck going forward.

@CPA Genie: I've never even taken a true live Auditing course (I've only done self-study for Becker plus an online course to qualify to sit for the CPA exam) and I've never worked in auditing so I'm not sure it really comes naturally to me. I just think I got a really easy test version when I took it back in October. Every question was so basic…..quite the opposite of my REG exam two days ago. Sure wish I could trade the two experiences, because I'd much rather restudy for AUD instead of REG! Are you an Auditor?

Haha this thread hits pretty close to home for me. I have a silly superstition where I believe that if I say I did well on an exam, I would bomb it, but if I said I did poorly, I would rock it! It's ridiculous, I know…but I remember I used to piss off my friends in college…especially in advanced financial when exam averages were in the high 60's, I would have been complaining about how poorly I did, and ended up with a 93. Not saying that's what the OP is doing in this case, but it just made me chuckle. This has given me an idea for a thread. Alcohol and Another71.com…always a good combo.

Lets fix it, I hope you passed. You scored so high and even a 99 on AUD. However, I do agree with you about the REG exam. I really think the examiners fully change out this exam each window so even the review course like Becker can't keep up. LOL. The questions were completely vague and out of anything I could imagine finding in the Becker review. Although I did struggle during the review. I'm thinking about getting another review course for that section.

    AUD - Passed:)
    FAR - Passed:)
    REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBD

@Letsfixthis – Did you get your REG score back yet? I had pretty much the same exact experience as you with two testlets asking me a similar/same question from a really obscure topic. It would've been an easy answer had I read over this obscure material, but unfortunately, didn't think I would be tested on it. Besides that, the test consisted of 2-3 sentence questions, not many complex questions, but still the questions were tough to answer as two choices always seemed to be left to pick from. My score comes in tomm (testing in TX)…hoping my 50/50 “educated” guesses get me that 75!

    BEC 7/2010 - 77 (5 days of studying, thought CPA was a joke; expires 2/19/2012 :/)
AUD 8/2010, 11/2010 - 74,80 (2-3 weeks of studying, still thought CPA would happen)
REG 7/2011 - 59 (3 weeks of studying, started doubting myself), 11/29/2011 80 (rebuilding confidence, one more to go!)
FAR 8/2011, 10/2011 - 49(4 days of studying, just went and took it), 73 (one month of studying, will never underestimate this exam), 76!

    Donezo. Impossible is nothing.

@ImpossibleIsNothing, I still haven't received my score yet because I live in the worst state in the entire U.S. (Illinois). Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow but it may not happen until Monday. I'll keep you posted. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Best of luck to you!

Letsfixthis I felt the same way you did when leaving. Got my score and it's an 84, I'm sure you'll be fine.

@letsfixthis – thanks for the wishes! Just got my score today, made an 80. So glad I passed. On to slay FAR in January hopefully (or BEC expires). WON'T let that happen. Impossible is nothing people, just have to put in the time. Best of luck everyone.
