Studying REG

I am doing Becker self study and was planning on studying the three chapters on BLAW first then doing the tax chapters last and ultimately closer to the test day. Is this a good or bad idea? Thanks in advance for any advice 🙂

    FAR 2/22- 87, BEC 4/14- 87, AUD 5/28- 92, REG 8/30

I just took REG at the end of May. I am not sure that it matters which section you start with, but tax is definitely hit harder on the exam. Just make sure that you allow yourself enough time to get through all of the tax material. If you choose to study that part after law, try not to get caught cramming a week before your test. Not sure how much time you have before your test, but I did tax first, then law, then I went back and reviewed tax before the test. I believe it worked out well for me, but I won't truly know until I get my score. Hope this helps and best of luck!

    REG 94, AUD 87, FAR (10/8), BEC (11/24)

Jpino is right. I would do tax first, then BL and then Tax again. I overdid BL because i had greater pleasure from studying it and then found myself struggling to catch up with tax. I know I almost failed because there is much more tax in this exam than BL. don't forget the ethics, I had sooooo much of it, it surprised me.

    Trying like crazy CPA,

I think it's a very good idea. Approach Business Law diligently, do all MCQ and lectures and stuff, but then just concentrate on TAX, and don't come back to law. My friend did it in the order you described and she passed with 86:-) Good Luck.

Trying like crazy_CPA – I was just wondering what your reasoning is for studying in reverse order. REG is broken up approximately 55% Tax, 45% Business Law. I would think you would want to ensure that you know Tax inside out. I also think there is much more information to cover for Tax than Business Law. However, if you put in the amount of quality study time you should pass either way. Good Luck.

Do tax first. I passed REG studying tax and only reading Yaeger's notes on business law a few days before the exam.

I agree w/75 CPA. A lot of the Business Law is common sense stuff.

I still think it makes sense. You study law, it's in your head, but before the exam you're focusing on tax. So when you get to the test room – all the tax issues are fresh in your head. I think this is a method for crammers, which I (and many of my friends are). If I fail REG again – i'll go with this order.

Anna, true that you need to have to remember the tax issues from a fresh perspective.

On another note, how is the long wait Anna, butterflies….!
