I failed REG with a 74… I’m really bummed…. For anybody else who has had to retake REG, how did you study? Did you re-listen to lectures, or just review the material and focus on MC? Also, how long did you study second time around? I’m trying to get my battle plan together so that I can pull myself together and continue studying. I plan on taking AUD early July, and hopefully REG early Aug…. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I used Becker and reread all of the material, then memorized every single flash card. Once I got through that, I watched the Yaeger Cram once (22 hours or so) then spent the last week going through the flash cards again to refresh myself.

I didnt do any multiple choice questions for any of the sections, I tried once, but I dont seem to study well that way.

    REG - 71, 74, 78 5/28 FIN - 76, BEC - 71, 77, AUD - 81

    DONE!

Oh, I also write down every single mnemonic in a notebook as I am reading through the lectures. I would keep going back to my notes to make sure I knew them as well.

    REG - 71, 74, 78 5/28 FIN - 76, BEC - 71, 77, AUD - 81

    DONE!

Since you received a 74 your knowledge of REG is pretty good. Re-reading everything in my opinion is a waste of time. There are some sections that I'm sure you know backwards and forwards, just do a quick review of these sections. I would then concentrate on the areas you are weak on. You'll know these right away because once you start looking at them again you will see you don't understand the section. Take extra time going over these sections again. Do as many MCQ as you can in the areas you are weak in. Really understand why the answer is correct and also what makes the other choices wrong. It's possible you could get a very similar question on the exam that changes one word that could cause the answer to be something else. Good luck.

If you use becker, I suggest doing a 3-4 hour review of each chapter, go thru the highlighted/underlined sections and parts you know you need to brush up on as well. then do the supplemental questions for each chapter. do lots of multiple choice questions and teach yourself any question you get wrong.

I used CPAexcel for all my tests. The first two times I took the test I read everything but did very little multiple choice questions. I really didn't spend as much time studying as I should have. After the second time failing, I really concentrated on the multiple choice questions. I also tried to concentrate on the areas I didn't know as well. I did as many multiple choice questions as I could. I tried to understand why the answer was correct and what made the others wrong. I didn't change my study materials, just my study habits.

Study the same way that you review, go through the chapters glance over highlighted areas, and physically re-read the sections that you struggle with. Re-do all Mc and do the mc on cpareviewforfree.com and you will be money. You just got to keep reviewing, mc make the concepts stick.

Rski – I would do an honest evaluation of my study habits and plan. Did I do enough the first time around? I was bummed when I got my 73 on AUD but after thinking about my effort, I really could not be disappointed. I found a direct correlation between the amount of time I studied and my scores. I used Becker. As far as the second time around. I took FAR first and passed then picked up AUD after 4 months without studying a minute. However, it still felt like a review. Having said all of this, I would restudying as if it was the first time. Do everything the way you did before. If you answered no to the prior question then you need to put more time into your studying. You are very close. I would NOT just concentrate on your weak areas. No two exams are alike. I think you would be doing a big mistake if you do not go over ALL the material then spend extra time on weak areas and your diagnostic report.

Good Luck, you will get it next time.

Reading some of the comments from other test takers – no two exams are the same. I would review it all and study both my weak areas and strng areas. Redo all the MC questions, review text, videos. Since you have aready gone through the material it will go faster. It is like war – don't want to get caught fighting the last war and be unprepared changes for new developments 😉 The luck of the draw could change the slightly focus of your next exam!
