I am currently using the Becker Book, Ninja MCQ, Wiley MCQ, and ninja notes. I plan on starting with chapter 1 tonight in the Becker book. Is anyone else following only ninja's steps?
December 9, 2014 at 10:06 pm #651135wmcpaMemberDecember 9, 2014 at 10:58 pm #651136Laura M.MemberI am starting to study tomorrow for REG. I got my BEC score back and was waiting on that to start studying for my LAST SECTION! I use CPAexcel, Wiley Test Bank and for my other three tests have purchased the Ninja Notes. I will get these later as I only used them during my final review so if he has a “special” between now and then I will purchase! I plan on taking the exam Feb 9th. I hope I can pass this as I will loose AUD if I don't pass before May!

December 10, 2014 at 1:06 am #651137Sunny and 75MemberHello everyone. I am beginning to prepare to take REG for the first time. There are a lot of specific values for the phase-outs and deductions, is it important to know all the values or just the overall rule in these situations? Thanks in advance

R - 66, 78December 10, 2014 at 3:13 am #651138wmcpaMember@Sunny – I've only seen phase-outs in an overall rule. I don't recall seeing anything specific to the numbers on the exams. From what the Becker instruction stated, I think the important thing is to know something happens when someone/married couple earns more than $100K (typically). There may be a question or two on it, but I haven't seen any. Deductions – yes – know them – if you mean by exclusions such as residence gain exclusion rule – residing there at least 2 years, single gets 250K, married gets 500K type of thing. I bet that the next sim may have something like that – a person residing in a house for a couple of years, then rents it out, and returns and sells it. What's the resulting taxable gain?! I thought I read about it somewhere in the text or mcq at one point. Going to revisit that as well as rental property!
Good luck to all of us!

BEC: Q2 2015December 10, 2014 at 5:59 am #651139pnielsen1982MemberGoing to re-take REG the first part of January, but have to make it through finals next week first. If I don't pass REG this time, I lose AUD and get to start this crap all over again. Long story short, I'm determined to pass.
A lot of people are asking questions about phase-out and limitation amounts. My understanding is that, if the number is tied to inflation, you don't need to know the limitation (it will be given on the exam if you need it). I use CPAExcel and they're pretty good about breaking out which numbers you need to know and which you don't, but I'm not sure about other study materials.

December 10, 2014 at 1:37 pm #651140NJPRUMemberJust purchased (hopefully) my last NTS! Such a weird feeling.
Not sure if any of the Q4 people are lurking this thread, but is there any advice that you could give me to ensure that this my last section?? I don't like cutting any corners, but I would like to know, let's say, what sections in Becker are the “hardest” and “longest” to study for. I want to make sure I adjust my study plan for these sections.
Thanks in advance!

December 10, 2014 at 1:50 pm #651141jgmart04ParticipantI'm retaking from a 73 on 11/17 for a retake as soon as I get my NTS back (just mailed yesterday). I had a pretty traumatic life event the night before and didn't get any sleep. I'm thinking that had something to do with it. I was trending on Ninja notes at a 79 but my avg score was a 69. Using the adaptive learning is great but it skews the trending score. Bought FAR NINJA MCQ Sunday before I got my REG score. Taking that April 3rd. Any suggestions for retaking REG?
December 10, 2014 at 3:55 pm #651142nevertoolateParticipantSubmitted my application to take REG again in Q1….I have the “taking no prisoners” attitude right now and will be hitting the material even harder than the last time!

December 10, 2014 at 4:12 pm #651143jgmart04ParticipantAnyone have any suggections? I am looking over the stuff i stuggled with, (partnership tax, S Corp, Estate/Trust) Besides that, I reset my NINJA MCQ stats and am doing all of the questions to shoot for my AVG score and Trending to align.
December 10, 2014 at 4:51 pm #651144nevertoolateParticipant@jgmart – I'll be treating it like a new exam as I've read solely concentrating on weak areas could lead to a repeat fail. I was trending 71 on Ninja MCQ with an average of 70. I scored a 68. I used Ninja MCQ for a 3 day cram review but will definitely be taking my review to at least a 1 week minimum. I think Ninja MCQ's are great and regret not getting them earlier. Let's nail this exam in Q1!!

December 10, 2014 at 6:27 pm #651145GabeParticipantDecember 10, 2014 at 8:30 pm #651146The_AmYamMemberI have passed REG – in 2012 after failing it once. I lost my credit (had a baby… stopped testing), so here I am again.
The difference between when I passed and failed:
Understanding the bigger picture vs all the small rules.
I color coded my notes – adjustments – headers in blue, credits – orange, etc. It helped me categorize information and remember it more easily during the test.
AMT – I learned it backwards and forwards the 2nd time around.
My study schedule that time:
study before work
study at lunch
study after work
I didn't do this every day of the week but most days. Review on the weekends. Flash cards during down time.
You REALLY need to know the tax pieces backwards and forwards. It's a lot of information but break it into small study topics and drill them. If you are just going through the motions of MCQ's but not stopping to really understand the concepts – walk away and do it later when you're focused.
DO NOT SKIP the really boring really tedious CPA Liability crap. It's easy to gloss over but it's still tested.
When you've finished all of the content, review the Content Sprecification Outline. Mentally list all the things you know about each bullet point in the outline. If there's something you can't immediately spout off, you need to focus on that section.
I utilized Wiley MCQ's/simulations on top of Becker the 2nd time.
Do all of the sims. ALL OF THEM. understand the answers and why you did or didn't get something.
Ch's 3 and 4 seemed the longest, to the poster above. Give yourself time to review ch 1 – 4 (becker) before starting 5-8.

BEC - OCT 15December 10, 2014 at 9:50 pm #651147GabeParticipantThanks @the_amyam! In the middle of doing R3 homework and it is extremely long. Might google some ATM videos because I'm not really getting the way Becker explains it…also might break out my college tax textbook- I remember it being useful. Would you also suggest printing out the tax forms?
