#70 Bob acquired a 50% interest in a partnership by contributing depreciable property that had an adjusted basis of $15,000 and a fair market value of $45,000. The property was subject to a liability of $32,000, which the partnership assumed for legitimate business purposes. What is the partnership’s basis in the property for depreciation?

    A. $13,000

    B. $16,000

    C. $15,000

    D. $0

I usually do MCQs on all weak topics…look over notes, have audio going 24/7, do long sets of MCQs to get my mind/body used to thinking for longer periods of time. Depends on your time too- if you have all day or after work, etc.

    CPAby2015, answer is D.

    15,000+16,000-32000=-1,000

But since the basis can't go below zero, the answer is D.

I would definitely focus on the Sims for basis. I also found them great for R3 and R4 of Becker if anyone is using that program. They go into a LOT more detail. If you can work through the R3 and R4 Sims on Becker you're set for any MCQ.

I did not do this the first time around and can clearly see where that 66 came from

Was hoping to not have buy a new review course (currently using Becker).. but after finishing R1 – I really have a strong desire to do more questions. There are million items to know in R1 alone, but only a few questions that go over the most important.. I guess I'm just afraid that I'm going to get tons of questions outside of the MCQs in Becker (like i did when I took BEC). Did anyone feel this way for R1 as well? Did you supplement?

@cpahopeful Answer was B. The question was partnership's basis on property, not the partner's interest on partnership. Anyway, congratulations in passing 3 sections. I hope i can nail down this REG on January the finish all on Feb.

@NJ had the same thought…I've even done taxes (it's been awhile), but I bought Ninja MCQ- they helped me through the other 3 sections, can't hurt!

@Future- depends on your “base knowledge.” Some people can blow through R1-R2 if they do taxes on a regular basis, maybe even R3 and R4, but if you have little to no basis, I would say it's a stretch. Is your NTS expiring? Or you just want to sit at the end of the window?
