I am using Becker 2010; I have watched all of the lectures and have therefore made it throught the book and am now reviewing and going back through the book taking notes. However, I feel as thought most of this is going ‘in one ear and out the other’. I have been in public for a little under 4 years now and have done my share of taxes. So this is really bugging me as to why I don’t seem to be grasping this material. Most of it makes sense (individual taxes and general corp stuff) but some if it (AMT and small little minute details within chapters 3 & 4 (Corps & Partnership taxation) just don’t seem to be sticking at the moment.

I’m going to keep studying and studying until I can’t anymore, but I was just curious if anyone else felt the same way in their preparation.

I am doing REG right now too. After you read, write it out. It might take some time, but do it. I have been doing REG since the middle of May. I am just now outlining R4 and finished Partnerships, Estates, Trusts and Gifts outlines and MCQs. AMT was tricky for me as well. C Corp gave me trouble some and still does because there is so much information, and I have never really been exposed to it. When do you use NBV? When do you use FMV? Too much stuff!

I think I outlined AMT on 7 note cards because there was soo much to know. I read them over and over until it finally clicks. Keep going over the same MCQs over and over and figure out why the answer is what it is. Sometimes, you could be over thinking the information and making it harder than it really is. Eventually it will click.

Becks – you can always stop the lecture if they go through the material too fast. I always do. With all the highlighting and extra writing they have you do on the side, I feel like i concentrate on keeping up rather than grasping the material so i often pause the lecture so i understand what was being said. Then i will look away and make myself repeat the concept in my own words so it makes sense. I do think that re-writing things helps… its just time consuming and your hand hurts after a while :-X i also agree with barnesmic, it will click, you just have to keep going over it and the mcq def help.
