Over the past couple of months I’ve really started to depend on coffee much more than in past when I’ve taken the test. Is anyone a regular coffee drinker; and how do you handle taking the exam? Do you drink any before the exam? Thanks for the input in advance.

I had been drinking so much and so strong coffee (after all, in seattle that's what we do everyday) that my whole body had been literally shaking on the occasions. Two weeks before my FAR exam, I've decided to quit coffee altogether in order to prevent/reduce anticipated test anxiety. Since then, I had not had a single cup and been using multivitamins for energy.

How do people drink so much soda a day? I drink maybe one can of pepsi a month and thats all. I do drink a cup of coffee or Starbucks daily, it keeps me from getting depressed.

I used to hate coffee until I started studying for the exam.

Not sure if I'm doing it right or wrong but I might have a cup of coffee in the morning the day before an exam and cut it off until after the exam. I need my nerves to be as relaxed as possible so I make sure I have at least 24 hours with no coffee and try to get a good night of sleep the night before. I also try to eat food with lots of protein leading up to the exam… again, I have no clue if this is smart of it actually does anything (I'm no nutritionist).

Also, and I hate to admit it, have started smoking cigarettes more with the exam. I barely ever drank coffee (one or two cups a day) before I started studying. Now I drink probably 5 – 6 cups a day at least and smoke about 3 cigarettes… I get up for work before 6am and don't get home (study at the office every night) until after 10… sometimes after midnight. If caffeine and nicotine are needed to push me through, so be it.

No smoking and no caffeine the day of the exam until it's over… and I pay close attention to the amount of water I drink the day of the exam as well.

Post-exam, need to kick the cigarettes again and drop back down to less coffee… oh, and start excercising again. Also probably need to repair some friendships with everyone I haven't talked to in the last year 🙂 hopefully no one holds a grudge.

I so hear ya! All the habits that I despise including very min exercise had crept up on me while I been studying. And it just gets worse: now my feet hurt and my rear is in shape of pancake and eating habits wish for a better. Friends and family complain a lot as well = they think I pretend to be so busy with some exam that I supposed to be already prepared: “didn't you actually study that in school, what is the problem then, it is just a review” ugghr….

Haha yep… this exam pushes you on so many levels. Sacrafices made for family, friends, personal health, etc…. and then you have to deal with all the ridiculous comments people make. There is my boss that took the exam 20 years ago and says I have it easy pretty much on a daily basis and makes remarks like, “I seriously don't know if I could pass the exam if I tried”. I'm like REALLY??? You think you could just walk in and pass now??? Then I give him sample questions and he starts coming up with reasons why the question is unfair.

The other one is when every person I talk to says, “don't be so worried, you'll pass… I know you'll pass”…. I just want to punch everyone in the face 🙂 just kidding… kinda.
