Took REG Earlier

I was surprised about one of the simulations. I already know that I got one MCQ wrong after I looked up the answer after the exam.

I was hoping for another score in the 90s but probably NOT. I just want to pass. Its my last one.

If I fail, I can take it later in the month right? Before the new format rolls out. I just need to get a new NTS and a date. My FAR expires in January and I really do not want to have to take it over.

You can't take the same test again in the same window. If you just took REG you'll get your score on the 19th, after the Dec window anyways. FAR is my last one and I really don't want to take REG again either if I don't pass.

Thought it was my understanding you cannot retake the same exam in the same testing window.

Yea can't take it in the same testing window. So will be in January before you can retake and then the material changes some. I left REG emotionally defeated lol so if you were just surprised by 1 SIM and 1 MPQ then your golden 🙂

I was emotionally defeated. I was surprised by a majority of the sims. but the one I mentioned was about . . . well I don't want to say but it like if they asked about the ranges for deduction phaseouts. You had to memorize it. I was just glad I finished.

The scores are released on Dec 11th and then a new window opens, right?

i thought I could take it after dec 19th, i am hoping they will go easy on passing people given the monstrous changes in REG

You can after Dec. 19th on Jan. 1st 🙂
The rest of December after the 10th is blackout month.
And like others said not in the same window you cannot.

    Ems,

When does your test credit expire? I'm quote a post from the below thread saying, “I had the same question to my state board and she said as far as you take the exam “on” or “before” your score expiration date, you are good to go.” (SONA)

And based on my general understanding as well, as long as you sit before (or on the same day according to the post I referenced) the expiration date, and pass, you'll be okay.

    Super Accounting God,

CPA Exam Blackout Months. The third month of every quarter is considered a “Blackout Month,” in which no exams are administered. That includes March, June, September and December.

cannell, yes I contacted NASBA but it means I only have a short time to relearn REG as it changed significantly

Blackout months are a little confusing. For a while I thought you could not schedule in those months (like December) but it turns out you can still schedule to sit for like the first 10 days of each blackout month. They should just call them blackout periods so people don't think they last the whole month. I mean we are accountants we should be more precise in our phrasing.

Tim, They extended the testing periods earlier this year or late last year and added 10 days to each period- so originally they were blackout “months”. I wouldn't raise this though in case they remove the 10 days for the sake of accuracy…

I know a bunch of people already responded but I figured i'd condense it all into one post in case you still don't fully understand.

So based on your original post (on 12/4), I'm assuming when you say “earlier today” you mean 12/4. With that being said, you should receive your score on 12/19 at 12am (unless NASBA starts releasing them a few hours early).

Now if it's the worst case scenario, and you find out you failed REG, you can retake it but will have to wait until the next testing window which would start January 1, 2019. As a result, you would have to take the exam based on the new changes. Since one of your other sections expire in January, my recommendation is to prepare for the worst case scenario and get a new study book with the new material and start studying NOW (I know if you have Becker you can start studying the new tax law).

Again worst case scenario, if you fail REG, you will be good as long as you take REG before your other exam expires (as long as you pass REG).
So for example, lets say your FAR exam expires January 15th. As long as you retake REG sometime between Jan. 1- Jan. 14 and pass, you won't lose credit. Even if you wont find out your score for the REG retake until Feb. 5th.

BLACKOUT MONTHS: To answer someone elses question, the year is broken down into 4 “testing windows.”
Each testing window includes 2 full months, and then the first 10 days of the 3rd month. You can only take exams during these windows: So basically testing windows are as follows (and you wouldn't be able to take an exam on March 20th for example).
    Jan 1 – March 10.
    April 1 – June 10
    July 1 – Sept. 10
    October 1 – Dec. 10.

Lastly, if you fail an exam, you cannot retake it until the next window.
So for example, If I study for REG and take it on January 15th, then find out on Feb 5th (score release date) that I failed, the earliest I would be able to retake the exam is April 1.

If anyone is curious about the 2019 score release dates, here's the linK: https://www.aicpa.org/becomeacpa/cpaexam/psychometricsandscoring/test-windows-score-release.html
