REG Simulations :( - Page 3

I just took REG this past weekend. I used Becker to study for about 150-200 hours. I was pretty confident in all of the multiple choice packets; I only had to make educated guesses on a few for each packet. However, the sims were absolutely terrible for me. I didn’t even know where to begin. I know I got the research question correct and filled something in for all of the simulations with, again, educated guesses and left with 30 minutes left. I had a general basis for my guesses but, at the end of the day, had no full confidence in any of my sim answers.

I’ve taken FAR and BEC and passed with an 85 and 88, respectively, so I know I have good study habits. Does anyone know if there is still hope for me to pass? Waiting for that score is going to be terrible.

@zoctoman – I have failed this exam 4x because of SIMs. I wonder if I should change my strategy from “try to answer all SIMs and hope for the best” or “focus on the few that I can nail down with a bit more concentration and put zeros for the others”?

    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    FAR - 76
    REG - 76
I want those initials next to my name!!!!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...

Hi everone! I'm currently preparing for REG using Wiley (just the book). I plan on purchasing Wiley's test bank questions once I'm through the material in the book to prepare. The questions and simulations in the Wiley book are not too challenging and from what you guys are saying, the actual Sims on the exam are extremely difficult. Did anyone prepare with the same materials I'm using and was it enough? I don't want to drop another $500 to use Becker. I don't think I have the time for it anyway. But I have a feeling their Sim questions might be better than Wiley's. Please help me!

Last Chance….My biggest advice would be to move on if a simulation seems super hard. If you waste time on something that seems greek you will be losing time you can use on a simulation you may know well.

Also, I always skip the research question(unless its the last one) initially because I know the points are not much on them. For my audit exam i wasted 20 minutes on my research question and it was only my 2nd tab.

Essentially, you want to give each simulation your best shot….If you have no clue or are struggling, then either put down your best guess or skip it entirely. At the end when you are through with your first look through you will be able to spend more time searching through the literature. It would be a shame to spend 15 minutes searching through the research before you had a chance to look at a later simulation that you may nail perfectly.

So……my advice, unless you are super well versed in using the literature, is to basically try to answer each question on your own…then use your remaining time using the literature….afterall, you didn't know the answer yourself so you will not be wasting time using the literature!

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85

@zoctoman – Thanks for the advice. I am using the authoritative literature to search for answers in Gleim, and am finding there is no way I will be able to find answers on the real exam. There is no real way to look up all answers for an entire SIM, let alone 6 SIMs! I will go through each SIM once (may leave the research question to last like you said), and then use the AL if time permits…

    Carolyn:

I passed FAR and AUD using just the Wiley books and the Ninja Notes, and I used the same for REG. My score comes out June 9th, so I'll try to remember to post here and let you know. Regardless, I'm a pretty big believer in the Wiley books for efficient preparation.

    FAR - 92 (November 2014)
    AUD - 92 (February 2015)
    REG - 87 (May 2015)
    BEC - TBD (July 2015)

I've used the Wiley books and Ninja Notes for each section.

Is anyone in the Baltimore area that is currently prepping for the REG exam and would like to connect? Or even if you are not in the area, if you want to connect just to let some steam off I would love to hear from you. Please respond. Thanks.
