REG experience

Took REG yesterday and I’m sad to report that I’m doubtful I passed.

Exam was very fair but I found myself blanking out on very basic questions, mostly centered around simple definitions (like what is a reportable transaction) and confusing a few questions involving taking the lesser of something vs. the greater of something.

I’m bummed because I can identify at least 5 of those missed beyond the dozen or so questions I flagged. I’ve been at REG for 2.5 months and it’s my last section but I definitely burned myself out. I’ve been dealing with health issues for the past year so I’m running on fumes trying to finish all this before I lose BEC in June.

Something that I disliked about REG from the beginning was the heavy amount of memorization that is required. There’s the partnership basis concepts and the tax concepts but beyond that, most of the rest of the section is fact-based memorization and it’s those things that are easy to forget and/or confuse on test day.

It’s one thing to not pass because you failed to prepare but to not pass because of blanking out on simple definitions, that’s sucks. I went through almost all of the Ninja questions twice, trending score of nearly 90% so I’m not sure on what to change but I’ve got my NTS ready to reschedule, now I just wait for my score despondently 🙁

My advice to you all is make sure you have the definitions down as well as knowing precisely those stipulations of taking the lesser of vs. greater of (there’s a handful of them). Also, don’t burn yourself out!

Thx for the insight. I’m in the same exact position as you. 3 sections complete before June, with BEC then expiring. It’s been a struggle to studzfor this one for sure. For FAR I ended up scaling back because I felt burnt out. May need to do the same here. Test in 2 weeks..

Definitely go in well rested, refreshed, and with a clear mind. Missing easy questions is the WORST and I'm most certain I did not pass because of that. Almost cried walking out after going back and searching the definitions and realizing the mistakes I made. So frustrating.

A lot of people say they feel that way when they sit for REG. I’m sure you passed. Update is with the good news when you do.

Not sure if this will help or not, but I walked out of REG sure that I failed, and to my surprise, I passed. It seems like of all the tests, REG is the one where people most often pass when they expect to fail. Don't give up hope until you see the score.

I think that you have to follow Jeff and give Rogers a shot. I did and I am now all done!

@shaya.wikler I actually started out with Rogers. Big waste of time and money honestly. Aside from the format of the SIMS, Ninja is way better. I passed the other three sections with just Ninja after I tossed Roger so it's doable.

My performance on Wednesday had nothing to do with the quality of the study material. It was simply stupid mistakes on my part, no excuses.

I feel the same after taking it yesterday! Do you have any long and difficult questions in your Testlet 2?

Exam same experience as everyone here. I've taken REG 3 times now. 1st attempt was in November, 2nd in January, and 3rd this weekend. The first 2 attempts were identical very easy MCQs (received a Stronger rating in MCQs both failures) and SIMS were a nightmare. This go around I had to look in the top left corner of the screen to make sure that prometric had signed me in for the correct exam section. This attempt was 100% different than any of my prior attempts. Basically it was as broad as the study material, no theme, no predictablility, just a question or 2 from each blueprint area and heavy testing of thresholds and phase outs. The only reason I'm part way confident that I could have passed this attempt is becasue the SIMS, with the exception of the first 2, were all relatively doable. The guidance helped a TON to complete each question and I felt that I could have gotten 100% on the last 6 SIMS and maybe 50/50 on the first 2. But there again, the MCQs were a nightmare so who knows! Good luck to all!

@cpanoob I don't recall but for the most part the exam was very fair and manageable. Just really simple and stupid mistakes on my part. I get my score back next week but I'm getting very restless and might start studying in a few days.

@Wingdings Interestingly, I'd say 75% of what I studied was not even in this exam which was a bummer. Hopefully you did well!

THis was definitely a weird attempt! Let's hope it was a crazy experiment and we all pass! Good luck!

@animalwithin That's basically how I feel too! Most of what I studied was not even in the exam but the MCQs were simple, yet I couldn't answer them. Good luck! We will all get the results on the same day.

    @gdubb29
    i use Roger.
