After being out of school for 15 years, two boys (7,9) at home, work full time, coach little league and volunteer at school I decided to begin my CPA journey in March. I decided to start with REG. I scheduled the exam for May and jumped into studying. After a bit of a slow start I got into a routine and plugged away until exam day. I left the exam feeling like I bombed it. When the results arrived I was expecting the worst and much to my surprise I passed!

    REG: 77

    Next up…FAR.

To all those out there still on their CPA journey, I wish you all the best.

    Congrats on passing 3 parts!

    Advice for REG:

I would start by studying Ethics/Prof/Legal Responsibilities and Business Law then move to Tax.

Some areas that I recommend focusing on more are:

Contracts, UCC, Debtor/Creditor Relationships, Real Property Transactions, Partnerships (Formation/Taxation), Basis, Distributions

These were areas that I found to be a bit more challenging.

For tax, make sure you know the foundational concepts very well and do not be as concerned about the complex areas.

Do a ton of MCQ for the tax topics.

    Hope this helps.

    Any advice for FAR?

Today I've looked at several threads to see what was heavily tested. Conclusion: know it all lol. The outlines at the beginning of becker and wiley that say the percentages of subjects is what I'm trying to follow. Stinks because I'm not going really hard at the b law questions because it's supposed to be around 20% of the exam, so I'll probably get hammered with b law lol.

This reminds me of a guy at work that passed the CPA a couple of years ago. His advice was to concentrate a lot of time on compilation and reviews for audit. Thank god I didn't take that advice too seriously.

    AUD - 5/13 85
    REG - 7/13 73, 2/14 84
    FAR - 8/13 82
    BEC - 12/13 80
