kandisjoyParticipantHere's the email that my boss sent out to my department to announce that I passed my exams. I found it kind of humorous so I thought I would share:
It is with great regret that I announce the Kandis CPA saga has finally come to an end. We have no way of verifying the accuracy and validity of the test results, therefore we must place complete reliance on the State Board of Accountancy (budget cuts and all) internal controls for detecting and preventing testing fraud. With that being said, and barring any unplanned findings by the Boardβ¦β¦β¦..β¦.Congratulations Kandis!!!!

HazeEastwoodParticipantLol, Kandis, that's great stuff. There was no announcement at my job. The CPA is so undervalued where I work. )-:

kandisjoyParticipantYeah my boss can be pretty funny. π That's a bummer about your work not giving you props for becoming a CPA! At what type of place do you work? I work for a bank and the only other two CPAs here are the Controller and the CFO, who are both extremely intelligent people. So everyone has been pretty awesome and given me a lot of credit for finishing my exams.
They are also harassing the CFO about it because he apparently failed the Ethics exam three times and had to re-purchase the course, but I passed on the first try. Poor guy. lol

T-rexParticipant@kandis,
Your boss sounds pretty cool!
I finally printed out the 50 question ethics exam and saved the pdf on my desktop. Maybe I'll actually complete a question or two tonight. If I can manage to do just 5 per day, I'll be done in 10 days. That doesn't seem so bad.
Advice to anyone sending anything to the CA Board of Accountancy: Send it registered mail! I am having to resubmit fingerprint cards (for out-of-state candidates) because the board didn't receive them. Rawrrrrrr.

kandisjoyParticipant@T-rex – Oh no! That's such a bummer. Did you have to pay to get new fingerprinting done?
Also how long ago did you send your application in? I sent mine in about a week ago but haven't heard anything.

OneStepAwayCPAParticipant@kandis. how long or how hours did take u to finish ethics. i barely started last night and took sooo long just to do 3. i feel so overwhelmed!! π
October 5, 2011 at 11:09 pm #624519
kandisjoyParticipant@OneStepAwayCPA – It took me a few days. Some of the questions only took 5 minutes, but the majority took me at least 10 minutes (I was at work and had a lot of distractions, plus I triple checked every answer). The California Ethics exam is 50 questions so.. let's say I averaged 10 minutes per question… that's over 8 hours to finish.
I know what you mean about it being overwhelming. It was definitely more time consuming than I expected it to be.

AnonymousInactiveHey another California CPA applicant here. I took the ethics exam online, I had no idea it would be so difficult. It took me a full workday to finish it so about 8 hours + lunch. Passed on the 1st try!

kandisjoyParticipantUpdate – Last night I received got a letter from the California Board of Accountancy saying that they received my application. On the same day I also got a letter saying that I'd passed all sections of the CPA exam (yay, posted on Facebook) and a reminder to do a bunch of things to get licensed, which I already did last week.
Oh and I ALSO got a letter included with my congratulatory letter which says I'm going to get a refund for $50 (which I requested) since I had already applied for a new NTS because I was so sure that I had failed REG. π

kandisjoyParticipant@mep616 – Here's a list of exactly what I received:
1) A yellow postcard which says that they received my application and it will be processed, and not to call since they won't give status updates on the phone.
2) In an envelope: A congratulatory letter which lists out the things that everyone needs to do in order to get licensed. It was a generic letter – I think it would have said the exact same thing no matter what application stuff they have received from me.
3) In the same envelope: A letter stating that I will be getting a $50 refund within the next month or so
That's it. I didn't get a status update on what they have or haven't received.
