Hello all 🙂 New to this thread. I've got to say that it feels oh-so-good to post here finally. Like Allyson, I wouldn't even let myself look at this forum until today.
I am truly grateful to have had this community while conquering the CPA exam. It has made all the difference. Thanks, Jeff, for creating this forum.

September 24, 2011 at 2:31 am #624497AnonymousInactiveOMG!! Congratulations, Allyson!! I'm so excited for you!! 🙂
Isn't it a good feeling knowing that you have the exams behind you?
September 24, 2011 at 2:49 am #624498AnonymousInactiveWooooooo! always wanted to post in here.
Allyson—I am in a similar boat, though for me I will either need 2 years experience(no CPA at my current office) or 1 year and to get additional college credits(I need 12 units which I am under the assumption can be any class, even a local community college). Also need to take the ethics exam, hadn't even looked into it—guess I better figure out how to get that done next.
My advice to you would be to try and find somewhere that will pay you, if that is an obstacle then yeah, maybe it would be worth it to pick up your hours somewhere that doesn't pay, but I would assume you aren't expected to work for free!
Just wanna add to the other sentiments that Jeff is the man! This forum has helped me tremendously—and I am almost certain that it was his note writing/re-writing suggestion which got me over the hump for REG. Glad I stumbled upon this place during a google search when I first began this journey.
September 24, 2011 at 5:39 am #624499AnonymousInactiveAllyson, have you joined your state society? You might be able to network your way into a job or volunteer situation to start piling up those hours, plus pick up your CPA mentors who will sign off for you. You know best; It's your state but I found this googling and it seemed like a good summary.

One reason I started this whole thing is VA has a work experience requirement you could drive a semi through — it can be any kind of management consulting or financial related work. Probably because of all of us federal workers they can sign up who most definitely are not doing public accounting.
You might also call your state board for advice. I found my state board staff to be super friendly and helpful — they were so excited for me when I passed, and told me repeatedly and sincerely that my lists of stupid questions were no bother to them at all.
September 24, 2011 at 6:31 am #624500AnonymousInactive@CPA2010TN – Unless times have changed, the TNBOA won't process your initial licensure application until they've had time to send you a congratulatory letter. In order to get that letter they must have a copy of your exam scores from NASBA and a copy of your ethics score from the AICPA. I tried that whole expediting process you mentioned but it didn't do work. They have a well-defined process and they don't typically like deviating from it. Congrats on finishing though!!!
@Allyson – Way to go!!! Thanks for being an inspiration to everyone around here!
September 24, 2011 at 11:54 am #624501NolaCpa2BeMemberI'm so excited to be able to post here 🙂 The new NASBA site hasnt updated my FAR score. So i check the old one to verify my new score every once in a while to make sure I didn't invent a passing score in my head. It still breaks my heart to see the word “FAIL”.
I've just accepted a position at a CPA firm. I'm ready to get this year of experience under my belt, so I can make this whole CPA exam process worth it.
Any advice for starting a new job?
September 25, 2011 at 3:52 am #624502AnonymousInactiveThanks, Diane, I actually joined my state and local chapter CPA societies about 2 weeks ago. I'm really going to make an effort to be involved.

September 26, 2011 at 9:48 pm #624504Trying AgainParticipantCongrats to Allyson and all the others who passed during the Q3 window. I finally passed the exam after 5 years of trying during the Q2 window. I passed the state specific laws and rules exam on 9/10 and thanks to my neighbor, my application was expedited, and as of 9/12 I am a licensed CPA. So this is my first post as a CPA. At my current job there are no other CPA's to sign off on my work experience, so I had to have a previous employer sign off.
Like other posts I have found my state CPA society to be very helpful.
Licensed CPA since September 2011
September 27, 2011 at 1:42 am #624505AnonymousInactiveI also want to congratulate everyone that passed in Q3!! I am very excited to be considered alumni…passing this exam was probably the most difficult challenge that I have ever faced. I got my score online last week and was jumping around the house like a complete fool, shouting “I'M GONNA BE A CPA!!!” Anyway…just wanted to thank you all for being here and sharing your thoughts and allowing me to share mine as well. Finally, a HUGE thank you to Jeff…without the NINJA notes and another71 I would've been lost. Good luck to all of you, and maybe we can all stay in touch here 😀
September 27, 2011 at 7:56 pm #624506kandisjoyParticipantWell, I'm trying to make it through my ethics exam but I'm so distracted by checking this forum that I'm making very slow headway indeed! Why am I still on this forum?? I know that nobody's score is going to come out right now. Probably tomorrow morning. I think I've just been obsessed with this forum/exam scores for so long that my brain is having a hard time dealing with NOT needing to be obsessed. Anyone else having this problem?

September 28, 2011 at 12:13 am #624507AnonymousInactive@kandis—did you already receive your ethics material? I went through the Calcpa website last friday, paid for the course and have yet to receive so much as an email.
September 28, 2011 at 1:46 am #624508T-rexParticipantI've got to take the CA ethics test too. I've had access to it for weeks now, but I just can't seem to get it in gear. I'm still recovering from FAR. Perhaps I'll start this weekend. I was told that it takes about 15 hours to complete.

CA candidate not residing in CASeptember 28, 2011 at 3:16 pm #624509kandisjoyParticipant@BakedCPA – They won't send you an email. You had to sign up for an account with CalCPA.org to purchase the material, right? Log into your CalCPA.org account and go to “My Account” and then “My Online/Self-Study” That's where your course is, if you bought the online version. Let me know if that helps.
@T-rex – It definitely takes some time. I spend a good portion of my day yesterday on it and only made it 14 questions in. The questions are time consuming because they require a lot of research.
