ParticipantI'm so irritated…I gave my boss my work experience form 2 days ago…. I want it filled out like ASAP! Totally irritates me…I mean really I have to take the ethics (tonight's plans actually) and get the ethics test that the state board mails BUT I still want my work experience filled out ASAP! I've worked to hard to get this not to get it done quickly. I don't care if yesterday was 3/15 and we work in public accounting, this is way more important to me! Okay I'm done complaining!
Congrats RedRage!!

MemberThanks Kandis and keeptrying! It does feel great 🙂
Keeptrying,
I know exactly how you feel. I gave my boss my work experience form and she took her sweet time! I was irritated, but I knew I had a week before I hit my 1 year work experience at my current job so I didn't let it bother me too much. I was running the Austin marathon in late February so I told her I needed it before I went to Austin so that I can personally hand it to them…that worked, and she gave it to me pretty quickly LOL
I recommend this ethics course: https://www.societyinsight.com/si_login.aspx?BrandingID=1874 Search for Texas Ethics and it should pop up. It cost only $50 which is cheap compared to others, and it's pretty easy. It comes with a PDF and video of some chick just readin the PDF. I skipped that part and just went straight to the questions and used “Control F” to search the PDF and find the answers. I made a 95 first attempt and it took only about 25-30 minutes.
Also, the open book Code of Conduct tests that the Board sends is pretty tricky for an open book test. Don't take it lightly LOL. It took me nearly 3 hours to complete that little 25 question test. You have to make an 85 to pass. You can only miss 3. I barely escaped with an 88 LOL
Good luck 🙂

InactiveI'm surprised that they take their sweet time filling out the form. Some of these Accounting firms WANT you to become CPAs. In fact, some jobs put pressure on some people to pass the exams asap….

Member@lateralus ag, I used Becker all the way. It was a great experience for me. I have read other people's comments about it and I agree to some extent that it depends on the way you learn and study, you could try other reviews. In my experience I can say that I spent the money but I'm DONE!

Inactive@keeptrying: I'm right there with you with that one form hanging out there as the last requirement. Got fingerprinted, took ethics–all that–and just need one little signature. Ugh!

MemberSorry for the delay, but it is nice to be done (December 2011). Nice to be an Alum as well. Seeing how this site kept me encouraged throughout the process, it is only fair that I stick around and help the candidates in their quest.

Participant@keeptrying – I know what you mean about wanting that experience form done ASAP. I gave it to my department head on Thursday (3/15) and the next day sent a very pleasant e-mail requesting I get it back QUICKLY! He had it back to me on Saturday and I got everything mailed today!
I kept telling myself I was going to take my time on the 25 question professional conduct exam (Texas) because I have heard some horror stories about it. I ended up staying up until 1:30am the day I received it (3/15 – luckily I had finished all of my corp returns so I could leave the office at about 11 pm that day) so I could mail everything off ASAP.
Hopefully they register me this week. Does anyone know in Texas on which day of the week they register new applicants? I read that it is a once a week process. Im hoping they will have my packet before this weeks registration date.

Participant@Witchkizzle- I don't know what day they do it but it said it if it was done by 3/23 then we would be in June's swearing in ceremony. Which is what I'm hoping because that is when my husband gets sworn in. I mailed everything today, certified mail with return receipt….My conduct exam irritated me, i had to look up the code on their website because they didn't include all the sections and they had questions where they listed sections I didn't have a copy of!!

MemberThe TX Code of Conduct Exam was no joke! I barely escaped with an 88.
keeptrying,
I don't want to burst your bubble but I was under the impression that your license had to be ISSUED by 3/23 for the June swearing in ceremony. Maybe I'm wrong, but that was one of the reasons I tried to get everything in ASAP. They sent my work experience form back because of 1 section filled out wrong and instead of mailing it back in they allowed me to scan it and email it to the lady working on my file. Thank God, because I didn't wanna waste any more money to overnight it.

ParticipantThe license is issued when the registration process is complete. I speaking from my husbands experience. On my packet I got it said “new CPAs register between September 23, 2011 and March 23, 2012 will be invited to attend the June 2012 Swearing-In Ceremony (date to be determined). New CPAs register after March 23, 2012, will be invited to attend a subsequent Swearing-In Ceremony. ” I'm hoping that because of that date that if everything is in I will make the June cutoff.
