AnonymousInactiveHello folks, brand new alumn here and I'm so glad it's finally over. Now that I got my life back, do I get some sort of congratulatory letter in the mail which hopefully explains how I am supposed to apply for a license ? Or am I supposed to poke around on their not so helpful website to find out what the next step is….

RedRage00MemberMay..OMG! I got my passing score on Sunday from the TX State Board and I checked my mail this morning before work and I already had my packet of forms from them…wooohoooo…I may be a CPA as soon as next month! 🙂
I just need to fill out some forms, take their 25 question ethics quiz, and then some freakin' 4 hour ethics course online or in a classroom.

RedRage00MemberSo I was looking at the list of eligible 4 hour ethic courses for TX. I'm guessing all you do is download a PDF and answer the questions online? Some of them had LIVE classroom settings, but I'd rather just do it online. Also, it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. I found one for like $59. Some of the live courses were like $200. Screw that.
I guess I know what I'll be doing this Sunday lol I want to get it over with ASAP!
This is the one I found.

I also need to see if I can get reimbursed for these expenses. I feel like I'm asking for too much since they paid for all my testing fees and study materials LOL

MeganParticipantRedRage – I took the one from Lilianna Hickman Riggs. It was online and easy and good! I think $50. It took about 2 months from the time I got my passing score to officially being licensed.

mla1169ParticipantI got an email from NASBA yesterday saying they received my application to review my education credentials (because I sat with less than 150 credits originally). Working on hitting people up for reference letters. I HOPE to be able to get my license app mailed out by March 1 to be reviewed at the March 15 board meeting. Really stinks waiting since the beginning of November for my license, I definately don't want to wait until April!

RedRage00MemberHas anyone from TX ever failed the 25 question Professional Conduct open book exam they give you? I worked on it yesterday and it was tougher than I thought. I believe I can only miss 3 questions. It took me a couple of hours. Anyway, if you fail it they send it back for a redo….how embarrassing would it be if I passed all 4 CPA exams on the first try and then fail this little open book exam LOL

RedRage00MemberJust took my 4 hour ethics course online. It took me about 30 minutes to find all 20 answers on the PDF. I scored a 95% on my first shot. Thanks Megan for recommending this course!
Anyway, it was way easier than the 25 question Code of Conduct that TX sends in your packet. It took me like 3 hours to finish that one, and I'm still not 100% sure on a few of them. I'm not sending my packet to the board until the 21st of this month because that day marks a year at my current job and I plan to have my current supervisor fill out my work experience and it happens to be exactly 1 year next week. I'm probably gonna go over the Code of Conduct one more time just to be safe.

MeganParticipantRedRage – That code of conduct test is tricky, even if it says it isn't! I wasn't sure about a few of the answers too, but I ended up with a 96, so I'm sure you'll do fine! We made it this far, they can't hold us up here!

RedRage00MemberMegan, I'm running the Austin 1/2 marathon this Sunday. I won't be leaving until sometime Monday. I'm wondering if I should just stop by TSBPA and drop off my application in person LOL

MinimortyParticipant@herbie – I really don't see the benefit of this email address and think it is just another revenue generator for the AICPA. The only time you would use this address is if you are Looking for work. I guess I just don't get it.

HerbieherbParticipantI set it up last night. It runs off of Google's email. Easy to use.
@mini I like it to expand my new business and to show off. I'll use this on my business cards. I think it looks more professional than using a gmail or AOL…I also like how exclusive it is. You need to be cpa. It's not open to public, and the aicpa is getting the word out. some people have trouble signing their interstate e-mails with CPA at end of their name. With this its already there you are branded a CPA without putting the designation@mla ya do it after you get your license. You can also go for an associate membership which is open only to those who passed all four parts, but no license. The fee is cheaper than a regular member, so when you do.get licensed, you only pay the difference in fees.
