Allyson I'd be ticked off, maybe you can get a waiver or maybe this particular person was mistaken? That doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

January 5, 2012 at 11:33 pm #624736AnonymousInactiveAlumni's…..Help needed
I am back. It has been almost 6 months that I have passed all the four sections of this exam. I am still looking for ways to get the licensure. Here is my master plan. Please let me know if its going to work. ( Disclosure: This is not my idea, but found it online after extensive research)
Staus as of now: I have bachelors degree, with 133 credit hours. 30 credit hours accounting and 33 credit hours business and other good stuff. I have three years of work experience in a private firm as a staff accountant under the supervision of a CPA ( not active )
Problem: Need 17 credits more. Also, the cpa I am working under does not have the active license.
Solution: Will take 2 online classes from LSU ( Distance learning )
1. Government Accounting
2. Fraud Accounting
Will cost be around 600 and 2 months of work.
Then will take two CLEP exams.
1. Analyzing and Interpreting
2. Social Sciences and History
Each class is worth 6 credits. Will cost be around 200 and 1 month of work
After I am done with all these, I will get the offical transcript from LSU and College Board ( CLEP ) and apply to Excelsior College Credit banking service. The Credit Bank service will list the credits I have earned on an Excelsior College transcript, even though I not enrolled there. This service cost $270. What I will receive from Excelsior is an official transcript from a regionally accredited university that you I submit to the CPA board and WILL count toward your 150 hour requirement.
Once I have 150 credit requirement, I do not care about the work experience anymore. I will go for the state where there is no work experience needed.
Plz let me know what you all think about it. Thanks
Disclaimer: This is not my idea. I just gathered these information by spending almost a day for which I think I am eligible for 3 credit hours. Also, I am trying to make this happen in a legal way abiding with all the rules and regulation set forth by the concern agencies. Nor I am trying to influence anyone in regards to this matter. Plain and simple I am working towards getting certified in a legal and reputable way.
January 6, 2012 at 1:16 am #624737HerbieherbParticipantwhy do u need to pay 270.00 for that extra service? If you earned your credits thru the online university, they should send your transcripts over to your state board for free?

$ 270 is needed so that you would turn the unaccredited credit to accredited one…The credit from CLEP does not count as accredited…makes sense now…
January 6, 2012 at 4:45 am #624739HerbieherbParticipantthe whole Excelsior College Credit banking service sounds shady. How can paying 270 dollars automatically make unaccredited into accredited? Sounds like a scam and unethical…

January 6, 2012 at 5:43 pm #624741AnonymousInactiveWell I haven't visited in awhile but want to share that I have had the thrilling experience of getting my state accountancy board monthly magazine, called “Disclosures” (get it?). The cover has three fashionably dressed young people portraying accountants (look, we're, like, normal people!) and the one guy, in addition to an open shirt collar with his sport jacket, is wearing NO SOCKS with his loafers. Pretty edgy!
Kidding aside, I love the VA accountancy board — the nicest, most helpful people.

January 6, 2012 at 9:42 pm #624742Florida_Gator_GirlMemberHello everyone! Just wondering if anyone got their congrats letters or packages from state of Florida for those who passed last part October-November 2011. Just curious cause I haven't seen anything yet and it's about time I think.
January 6, 2012 at 11:21 pm #624743AnonymousInactiveI emailed NASBA and they said that it will be sometimes around January to have everything ready to send to the state board. I haven't received anything yet as well but I think it will be the end of the January?!
January 7, 2012 at 2:00 am #624744AnonymousInactive@dianepage, the VABOA rocks. They have been super helpful. I told them I wish SC was as easy to work with as VA.
NO SOCKS! gross.
Off topic: I lived in Norfolk after college for a while and my roommate at the time was studying for her CPA exam. I think she lost her mind at some point because she ditched her med-student fiance for a male stripper we met one night out partying at a club called “Rogues”. They got married within a month. She worked for KPMG. Dumbest smart person I ever met.
January 11, 2012 at 12:23 am #624745plang80MemberHello everyone,
I am a Massachusetts candidate who just passed all four sections in November. I am wondering if anyone could help me with the licensing requirements for MA. I have not received a congratulatory letter in the mail yet but I have looked over the license application. My questions are:
1. Does anyone know when I should expect to receive the congratulatory letter if I passed in mid – November?
2. The language in the license application is very confusing. Does every candidate have to apply for a AECR with NASBA? I was thinking no (because I have 150 education hours) but now I am not so sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
January 11, 2012 at 1:52 am #624746mla1169ParticipantPlang I am in MA, sat for my final exam on Oct 19 and found out I passed on Nov 3. I got my congratulations letter on Dec 23. I know I have to apply for the AECR because I don't have the experience requirement. Not sure if you have to with experience. I have to wait to get my transcripts in the mail (just got my degree today, HOORAY FOR ME!) then send away to the AECR.

January 18, 2012 at 4:38 pm #624747Florida_Gator_GirlMemberIf anyone has questions for Florida, let me try helping you. After passing the CPA exam in November 2011, I went online and printed an application along with the work experience form (my boss signed it) and sent it along with $50 to DBPR in Tallahassee, FL. As long as you have sent your education requirements (such as transcripts) when you applied to sit for the CPA, you will not need to send them in again (unless you were short of 150 hrs). They review your package (I recommend sending it with signature confirmation) and then you will see your status online at myfloridalicense.com under license application status.
Just got my license number today and I finally feel like a complete CPA. Hurray!!!! I can't believe that all the studying is over. Finally!!!! Congrats to all who passed!!!! Way to go!!!
