I wish I'd never began the process to be a CPA in SC. They are awful. I've met the 150 hour requirement, with 36 hours in accounting and 36 in business, and I've worked 7 years under a SC licensed Accounting Practioner (AP – they can do everything a CPA can except audits). I too am a licensed AP in SC.
SC will not recognize my experience. CA, VA, NC and lots of other states will accept my experience, so I applied in VA because I easily qualified, they are cheap, and are wonderfully receptive.
I've requested my grades be transferred to VA and now SC says they want me to surrender my AP license. No one will tell me why. I guess they have taken the last 2 weeks off for the year. I can see if I were a CPA, then I would need reciprocity. I should still be able to call myself an AP in SC. AP and CPA are not the same. I also know I can't label myself as a CPA in SC. I just want a freaking official license!
It doesn't make sense to me that they can't treat my grades like a college transcript. I should be able to share my grades with whomever I choose.
