Is it possible to take the same section twice within the testing window if the first time around you failed?

I see many people on this forum fail ie FAR 4,5,7 times, does that mean it takes those people over 1.5 years to pass one section and over 3-4 years to pass all the sections?

I a bit confused how someone can fail soo many times and still pass the exam in 1.5 to 2 years? Is it even possible with the way the exam is tested?

Please shed some light coz i feel like thats going to be me. 🙁

    Taking FAR in April.

    Thanks,

No you can't take a section more than once in a testing window, and yes it's very normal that it takes some people 1.5-2 years or even more to pass this exam. It depends on people's circumstances but a lot of people leave the exam and decide to come to it a few years later. I started in 2010 and failed many times (mostly because i was half-assing it and didn't know the right way to study) and left it for about 3 years and recently came back to it.

A lot of people fail because they don't know how difficult this exam is or what the right tactics are to get a passing score. You learn along the way and this forum definitely helps keep you sane and gives a bunch of tips. The people are also really supportive.

You can only take each section four times a year. Some people keep at this for a year or more before their first pass and some people lose credit for sections they had passed because they didn't pass the other three within 18 months. Everybody has a different path and I give all the credit in the world to the people who keep getting back on the horse no matter how long it takes. It took me 12 months start to finish with 3 fails during that time.

Everyone have their own story as why it took them so many tries and so long. However, the ones that TRULY FAIL are the ones that decides to give up and quit. I have been at this on and off since 2008 with setbacks or have gotten off track along the way. I finally was able to focus again which resulted in 2 passg scores.

I agree with everyone's comments so far, and Kricket, you know you got an AMEN from me. Everyone has a different path and there are several reasons why it may have taken some folks longer than others to pass. I am one of the ones that started this quest over a decade ago, failed it after 3x so I put it down to have my child and then came back about 3 years ago. I passed two in 2012 (AUD & BEC), but did not pass the other two until this past Oct and Nov (REG & FAR). So yep, you guessed it, I lost my first two earlier this year and have to RE-take them within 18 months. I pray that it will not become a vicious cycle, but I believe that I have found what works for me regarding studying habits and am pushing to have my license by the end of 2015, God willing! Keep your head up, don't let a failure stop you and find out what works for you, then defeat this exam one test at a time! You can do it!!

2002-2003 (when it was 2 Day Test):
    AUD - 69, 80, 81
    LAW - 73, 73, 73
    TAX- 71, 72, 67*
    FAR- 66, 63, 57*
(*on 3rd try, just tried to pass AUD & LAW while getting above 50 on these;didn't work)

    2012-Present:
    AUD - 73, 76 (expired 01/31/14), 70 (UGH)!, 86 (4/4/15 - praise God)!!
    BEC- 55, 69, 69, 78 (expired 10/31/14), 5/26/15...76!!!! AND I'M FINALLY DONE!!!
    FAR- 71, 71, 70, sat 11/24/14 - 75 PASSED!
    REG- 65, 67, 71, 66, sat 10/4/14; 75 PASSED!
