So when info is given for typical prep time, say BEC is 4 weeks at 20 hours a week. What do you consider is part of that? Is watching the home study videos considered part of that?

Depends…. Are you watching that lecture in the background while eating dinner etc?

To me, study time is you and your materials, with NO distractions in the room. So Yes, watching lectures in a secluded area, taking notes, etc is 100% study time. Your learning from the lecture right?

I think it is very easy to get caught up on study schedules and benchmarks and lose sight of the fact that the correct amount of time for you to study is until you feel confident with the materials. That said, I would count all the time you spend studying from watching lectures to making flashcards to reviewing because each activity helps your brain make a different connection with the material. One thing that I found with the self-study is that the videos become easy to just follow and highlight, but if you're going to dedicate 4 hours to one chapter there is really a benefit to being an active listener. Use the pause, rewind features and try to understand each topic to some degree on your first go around. This will save you time later over coming across the topic in an MCQ and having to back track to the explanation in the video or text.

I can't count my time either, it just seems like I can't be well prepared in the amount of time that they advise is needed to prep for the exam. That is why I wondered if the watching of the videos is part of it. Because when I did AUD, a 1 hour video took me 3 hours to get through because I constantly paused it and took notes.

I never even considered study time, I just took all the time it needed to listen to every lecture and do all the non-supplemental MCQ for Becker.

Passed Aud/Reg first time doing this and waiting on FAR now.

I don't count my hours either. I have a set study schedule each week with additional study time during my final review.

I think it's better to focus on getting through everything more that looking at how much time your spending. I think the hours recommended are just to give you an idea of what it takes the average person to get through the lectures, questions, practice tests. I do the same you guys mention above, I set a study plan based on getting through this chapter one night and a progress test the next.
