Does everyone have to take the ethics exam? I think some of the bigger states (CA and NY?) have their own but what about everyone else… do we have to take it too?

I googled and found the AICPA's course on Professional Ethics but it showed 3 options as CPE credits and I'm just not sure what to do or where to go. I looked on my state board's website and didn't find anything. Thanks in advance!n

iumike – I have searched the IN Board of Accountancy and did not find anything. I did just send an e-mail to them and will let you know what I hear back. I was the one who e-mailed a friend about it and she said she did not have to take it to get licensed.

Illinois does require it, so I'm not sure if there is confusion there or if someone was licensed in 2 states, they may have taken the IL ethics exam to become licensed there (if they received a job in Chicago for example).

IUMike- Just wanted to say I haven't received anything back from the IN Board. I'll keep you informed though. Have you received your paper score yet? I'm hoping something comes in there explaining what to do next. I talked to another coworker (who was licensed several years ago, when it was paper & pencil) and there was no ethics exam then. I wish I had someone who was recently licensed to discuss with.

I haven't received my paper score yet, but i've done some research on Indiana and I have not seen anything about an ethics exam required for the state, but i wish i could get some clarification from the Indiana Board to make sure

Based on my discussion with a board of accountancy member in KS it is on a state by state basis and it is probably best to contact them and find out whether or not you need to do an ethics exam. I know in KS it is required before you can receive your certificate.

IUMike- Just rec'd my paper score today but there was nothing special in it. Just same as always. I'm assuming there will be a congratulations paper coming soon. It was nice to see that I have credits for all 4 parts!

Does anyone know if the ethics exam is required for New Hampshire? Where can we find out about this?

IUMike and others: I rec'd my congratulatory letterfrom my state today! Basically it said you passed all portions and if you think you meet the work experience requirements then you can fill out an application for your license and then they will confirm with your employer. Then I'll be licensed! No mention of an ethics exam so I don't think it's required in Indiana. Never got an email back from the IN board of accountancy.

if you never took one; then chances are yes but you have to check it varies by state
