Waiting on results for REG, figured I’d start on the “ethics” portion. Am having a bit of trouble figuring out all the details/discounts available for different societies.

AICPA – This is the national group. I’ve heard that there is a discount on state level ethics material if we join? There are different options but looking to join the “associate” or “affiliate”. Affiliate is supposedly $35?

CalCPA Ethics Material – They seem to be the issuer of the ethics exam in CA. The ethics material prices said $150 for non-member, $125 for member. Are they referring to a CalCPA “Candidate” membership. Looks like for CAL CPA its free for the first year an $50 for 2nd? Then bumps up to the “Associate” afterwards which is close to $500.

So, joining CalCPA makes sense now as we get a $25 discount for free…what is the benefit of joining the AICPA prior to actually getting licensed? Just curious if anyone has been there before.

Passed AUD, BEC & FAR. Lost credit for AUD & BEC once. Finally finished with REG as dessert. 15 times was the charm.

    AUD: 86
    FAR: 81
    BEC: 80
    REG: 76

No masters necessary. You just need to get to 150 units. Community college units are fine and cheap. That's the way to go if you are short.

And do I have to the community college stuff !? or it is better to select pathway 1 and save time and effort..

Actually, I still don't understand the difference between pathway 1 and 2, I also read on the CBA website that effective Jan 2014 there won't be pathway 1 any more, and everybody will be either pathway 1 with or without attest !!

    Pathway 1 = 120 units and 2 years experience

    Pathway 2 = 150 units and 1 year experience

Pathway 1 is going away soon. Neither Pathway is “better” as they both result in the same license.

if you didn't have a full time job by January 1, 2012 then you are not eligible for Pathway 1

Guys, thank you very much for your help..

    Another small question..

I assume the experience meant is in public accounting, is that right ?

Because I never had an experience in public accounting in USA, I worked with some government departments and some public entities overseas.. is it gonna work, or do I have to have a public experience before proceeding in the licensing stuff !!
