While I’m in limbo waiting on scores, I figure I might knock out the ethics exam this week. But I’m a little confused by the options on the site. There is text, online for licensure, and just online. Does anyone know what the differences are? I just want to make sure I get the right one.

Before anyone asks, I am definitely in a state that requires this (Illinois). I got the link for the course directly from the Board’s website.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    REG - 75

Just finished and got 95%… do I need to send something to my state board? I checked the box for my state before the exam started, but the application for my license (still waiting on final score though) says I must notify the AICPA to send my score to the state board. How do you do that?

So reading after reading everyone posts, I take it I could take ethics whenever, I have three chances to pass it online (is that in a testing center or at home?), and it never expires. Is that right? Waiting on my exam results, might as well take this and get it out of the way.

Rainbow, I understand that it doesn't expire, but I haven't seen that anywhere “official”–you get a certificate from the AICPA that says you completed it, so it's like any other CPE course so it doesn't make sense that it would expire. It's all online at home or wherever. Pretty easy to knock out in a couple of hours 🙂

I had to check the box to send to my board as well as print off that i completed it. you can find your results under my purchases, click the course, then click completed courses, and it will show a “print certificate”. I had to include that as well in my packet for my state board for licensing

I have one exam left scheduled for March 2019 but i want to buy the AICPA ethics exam this year so my employer can reimburse me. The course listed in the AICPA store is version 2018. Would it matter if i buy the course this year and take the ethics exam in March after i take REG or I should wait for the 2019 version?

Hello! I just passed all 4 parts. Should I take the 2018 ethics for license or wait until 2019, or does it not matter? My state board is VA. I sent them the sheet, I got that says I have credit for all 4 parts.

    Thank you!

Today I tried making out the AICPA ethics. It looks hard for me (despite the fact that a passed all the CPA parts with average score of 90), it was not 40 questions, I've got 46! it's kind of wired, or I'm doing something wrong.
Anyone is taking the exam or just passed the exam can tell us some tips on how passing this test. It seems that it requires more than Ctrl+F, or anyone can tell me how many questions exactly in the exam?
    Much appreciated in advance.

How did you purchase the ethics exam? I have been trying since Thursday of last week and the AICPA store has had a bug in the system since then were when you try to log on it says your user name or password is not found, even though you logged into the regular AICPA website with no problem! I have contacted them everyday since Thursday and keep getting the same response we are working on the issue but we are not sure when it will be fixed. Also I had a buddy of my take the ethics last month and I believe he said his test was either 53-57 questions and to make sure you purchase the version for licensure. Because there are 3 available for purchase but it has to be the licensure edition. I could be mistaking on the amount, I will double check with him tomorrow at the office.

I also bought the ethics exam yesterday and even got $33 discount. I was hoping that the pdf book will still have a “practice exam” on the back but didn't. Instead, it has about 30 questions in total that are distributed among the chapters. Any shortcut on how to study for this one?

    @Accountant405

I am having the same issue as you where I can't log in to my account to purchase the exam. Let me know if you ever figure it out or receive a response. Being completely ignored by the AICPA service team.

I passed all four parts of the exam (my last one was Mar 2017). I purchased the ethics exam for CA and took it right away as I had the online version and thought all I had to do was do a CTRL find for the answers. Wrong. I didn't pass it that time (scored about a 75). I then took it a second time and really took my time (or so I thought) carefully reading each question and searching for the answer and again I got a 75! Both times I spent about six hours taking the exam. Well life and work got busy and I didn't even get to take my third time as more than a year passed. CA actually lets you have six tries, you take it 3 times and, if you don't pass, you contact them and they give you three more tries.

I am finally at a place in my work where the pressure isn't so intense and am ready to get this thing done. My question is this, do your CPA test scores “expire” if you don't complete the rest of the requirements within a certain timeline in CA?

Thanks in advance for the feed back

Kim W. – like all good accounting answers, it depends! Some states set a time limit between passing the exams and applying for licensing (AR, CO, DE, FL, etc). Best to check w/your state board of accountancy.
