Can someone explain how the effective portion of a cash flow hedge is reported in OCI? I am not getting how the changes of FV of derivatives and PV of expected cash flows are adjusted in OCI vs earnings.

Just curious.. on the real exam, when doing SIMs that involve JEs, can you get points off because you might do accounts out of order? Let me explain what I mean.

    You put:

    Dr. Cash xxx

    Cr. Land xx

    Cr. Gain xx

    But the answer key says:

    Dr. Cash xxx

    Cr. Gain xx

    Cr. Land xx

therefore you get 2 accounts wrong (gain and land) even though its technically correct, just not in their solutions order. I ask because I sometimes get missed points on Ninja sims because my accounts are sometimes out of order and it makes me wonder.

@titoav15 I highly doubt that is the case. From what I understand the SIMS are the only thing graded by hand. They have to be, which is why I think it takes so long to get scores back….

Anyway..I have a question for everyone…I have 2 days til my test…I am at the freaking out stage. Is anyone ever FULLY ready to take their test? It's always in the back of my mind to move my test back, but the other side of me is ready to take it and get it over with. Thoughts?

And what do you guys do in the final days leading to the exam? Other than pray…

    Good luck to all!

    AUD - 49, 66, 72, 77!!
    FAR - 72, 73, 78
    BEC - 70, 74, 79, I'm DONE!!!!!!
    REG - 70, 76!!!! FIRST PASS

I am new to this site and will be taking my first exam (FAR) in April!

If I have 7 weeks till my FAR exam, is this a good timeline?

3 weeks to watch all lecture videos and take thorough notes

2 weeks to do MC questions

1 week to rewrite/reorganize my notes

    1 week to review everything

Should I be allocating my time differently?

Thank you so much for your help!

    FAR: 81
    AUD: 72, 71, 87 finally!
    BEC: 79

@titoav As long as your entries are “technically” correct (correct account name, amount, debit or credit) then you should be fine. And I think I read somewhere here that the AICPA system is much more sophisticated when it comes to grading SIMs. Just be careful in reading instructions as the actual exam is very specific (ie. all positive numbers, put zero, rounding off, etc.).

@JMCAPASSO You can't really tell if you're ready until you actually took the exam. As long as you covered all the topics and an average score of at least 75% on you MCQs, you should be good to go. Final week I do comprehensive MCQs, and focus on my weak areas. Last day, either do a light review (maybe 90 MCQs) or not review at all. Make sure you also visit the exam experience thread to get some tips on what were heavily tested and make sure you have a good understanding of those topics. Good luck!

    Thanks for all the replies!

@CPAby2015 just curious… so then we should not leave any cell blank? I mean if the cell is meant to be zero or blank, we still should fill it in with an actual “0” or “blank” if thats an option?

Sorry if I am being so picky, my exam is coming and I am just stressing about this a bit, I don't want to lose points on something stupid like this.

BEC: 5/21/14 82! PASSED HALF WAY THERE!
    FAR: 4/2/15 80! Almost there!
    AUD: 69, 74, 4/3/14 81! PASSED
    REG: TBD

@titoav15 If it should be blank, then leave it blank, don't literally put the word “blank”. For example, the question may ask how much gain to recognize, then you will need to put 0 if answer is none. If the question requires JE and the answer field has 3 lines but the correct answer only requires you to enter 2 lines (1 dr, 1 cr.), the instructions may tell you to whether to leave the 3rd line blank or choose “no entry required” if that's an option.

does anyone understand when the BASE formula from becker is used? Or how to know when it's needed? My test is soon, and this makes me worried!

@kpanna92 I have 7 weeks for my test too. It's in about 2 weeks. It's doable depending on your schedule.

Also, what review program are you using? I used Becker, which has 10 lectures, so for me, I needed about 5 weeks for lectures and questions. That left me with about 2 weeks of review. Hope this helps!

@want2pass I typically use it when calculating (squeezing) a number such as service revenue. I use T-accounts like they suggest for A/R and Allowance for Doubtful accounts.

    FAR - 78
    AUD - 90
    BEC - 87
