Double-entry DeviantParticipantHell yeah – I'm in! I just found out I didn't pass BEC – took 8/31 – and I didn't pass FAR – took 7/1! So, I'm going back at those 2 in consecutive order. I scored 72% on each – and as I've heard it said – that means I need to start from scratch and not assume anything. I have already set my exam date, but that was with the thought I had passed BEC. Since this is not the case AND I have to retake all 4 exams over again (which I'm royally pissed off at) – I ain't got time to be playing!
Not sure when I'll be rescheduling the exam for – probably in mid October and then reschedule BEC for late November! GRRRRRR!!!!
REG: 5/30/15 - 77
FAR: TBD
BEC: 8/31/15 - 70, 73, 1/8/16 - 77
AUD: 6/1/16- 73, 8/2/16September 18, 2013 at 2:33 am #476301

AnonymousInactivequestion 7 is asking to compute the bond liability for 12/31/x4
im having a hard time understanding why you take 107,000 and multiply by the present value factor. i was able to complete the whole amortization table and get the same result

NYCaccountantParticipantIt's the present value of the future payment. I owe you 107,000 on 12/31/x5, what is that liability worth on 1231/x4?
100,944. So we would take the 100,000 Bond maturity * the discount factor of .9434, just like we would normally for the present of value of 1. Here is the trick – Normally we use the present value of an annuity for the interest payments, but since it is due the very next year, we can use the present value of 1 for the interest payment as well. Long story short, we'll combine the interest (7,000) and principle together (100,000) =107,000 and then multiply that times the discount factor of 6% due in 1 year (.9434), so it would be 107,000 * .9434=100,944. We are going to make a single payment of 107,000 to the investor on 12/31/x5, so technically, we can discount the interest (7,000) and principle (100,000) by the same factor (.9434). it's just a very quick way to figure out the bonds present value on 12/31/x4 without completing the amortization table.
FAR - 93
REG - 87
BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.September 18, 2013 at 3:26 am #476374

I dont quite understand present and future values that well
When I was in school we were allowed to use a financial calculator for our exams so I never actually learned how to use the FV/PV factors

Once I start reviewing DTA/DTL, I'll let you know. Thank you for your help (in advance). 🙂
I was reviewing Intercompany Transactions today and it makes me realize how many painful concepts are covered in FAR. I'm not having too much of a hard time with it, but it definitely is a bit baffling.
I think you said you'll be doing REG next right? When're you planning on taking that?
I'll be taking it on Nov. 30 (hopefully) so I'll probably be bothering you for that section as well LOL.
BEC (July 2013)
FAR (OCT 2013)
REG (NOV 2013)
AUD (JAN 2014)The CPA Exam is an opponent that not even the Fellowship of the Ring would want to come across.
I have a long...long...journey ahead of me.

icandoitCAMemberHi all, I have a question about calculating outstanding common stock for the purpose of EPS calculation.
During the year, 1000 common stock were issued in the middle of July. At the end of year, do you count this 5 months and a half outstanding? or just six months outstanding?
Thank you!
FAR: 63, 74, 80 Hallelujah!
BEC: 72, 70, 80 Thank you Jesus!
REG: 74, 75(lost credit), 72, Aug/2015

kels417MemberHey @DJN – I noticed you have used Becker and wtb for your exams. I just bought the wtb to use for FAR because I wanted more questions to work through as I only have one chance at passing it before audit expires in January.
What would you recommend…do the wtb questions as I go through each Becker chapter? Or do all the Becker questions and then do all the wtb? I just finished chapter 1 today. Exam is scheduled for November 21. Any advice is appreciated!
Illinois
Becker self study | Becker flashcards | Gleim | self written notes | WTBAUD - 74, 75 Passed! (Expires 1/2/2014)
