ZSRizviMemberOkay I just started on some bond problems in the Wiley Test Bank and they expect us to know the present value factors to discount the bond and interest payment amounts?
I was confused about what to do for one of the questions so I looked up the answer and they just popped out with these PV factors out of nowhere.
Are we expected to know the factors on exam day then?
Usually in Becker we're given the PV factors…
BEC (July 2013)
FAR (OCT 2013)
REG (NOV 2013)
AUD (JAN 2014)The CPA Exam is an opponent that not even the Fellowship of the Ring would want to come across.
I have a long...long...journey ahead of me.

oblioMember@ZSR – no you don't need to know the PV factors, just how to use them. The problem you had was probably trying to see if you could figure the right answer from the choices presented based on whether there was a premium or discount on the bond, the length of time till maturity, etc. But it is helpful knowing the TVMF of a PVOA can be translated into TVMF of a PVAD by this formula: TVMF of PVOA x (1 + i) = TVMF of PVAD (the same formula applies for Future Value but I'm not worrying about Future Value for FAR)

mmorfParticipantJust finished my 4th day of studying, want to push back my test date already!! Gave myself 50 days… Decided I will primarily use Yaeger's lectures and then read through the Becker books before hitting MCQs and SIMs. It takes me forever to take notes during the videos because I have a tendency to try to get everything down. I am behind already… Aaaah.
I had a classmate that gave himself 12 weeks to take and pass all four parts, and he did it (scores were lower-mid 90s and an 88 for FAR). I know I can't compare and I'm not on on as tight of a deadline, but damn. The more I study the less I feel know/remember, and things are sticking at a dreadfully slow a snail's pace.
I just hope as I continue there will be more things I pick up quickly. I feel most things aren't new to me, but relying the memory at the test pace is going to take a lot of practice.

oilgaslbMember@wolfchicken – if you're just starting now, I personally think 6 and 1/2 weeks is a little short, even if you're doing 2 sections per week. Do you work full time? If so, I'd give it another week for review, or in case you end up falling behind the 2 sections per week. Just my opinion though ๐ I'm giving myself 8-9 weeks with 1-2 sections per week, depending on my progress. I'd rather have extra time to review, than be taking the test before I'm ready ๐

kaywaleeParticipantHi Everyone!
I am on a mission, and taking out my anger by studying. I got a 70 FAR, sat the exam the last week of August window. The material is still fresh in my mind so, I have schedule FAR for October 21st (NYC).
Game plan, is keep doing Q and A's for every topic till I feel very comfortable moving on. To keep on track, I have plotted out each topic to tackle according to the weeks left and differculty. (will be using time of the train, bus and weekends to study like a mad woman)
Also, have schedule time off from work Thursady and Friday on the last weekend….Any, study tips will be helpfull!
Using Gleim/Wiley Q and A, Rogers lectures/Text, Ninja Note and my own hand written notes I a made from all 3 sources.
Posting this is making it all so real and how much I want to pass..Seriously!
Good Luck to all!

mmorfParticipant@Su- I'm thinking of rescheduling my test until 11/30, maybe we can be online study buddies. I'm not working full time and have the test on tap for 10/29 right now, but will make a final decision about whether I'll push it back in one week.
