Is it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.

I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

I guess its hard to conceptualize but it would be as such… Say you worked for a Corporation and you were accruing a pension benefit to be paid out at retirement. From what I understand it would be as if you voluntarily (the corporation was willing) to pay you a “special” benefit for you to forgo the pension and take a lump sum payment in lieu of that.

Anyone else that may have a better example speak up!

Another day of hard work accomplished… wrote about 10 pages worth of notes and worked about 40 MCQ just for FAR 3 that puts me at the 90% of homework done for FAR 3 tomorrow to work all day on FAR 4 and some simulations.

I expect to be a one hit wonder on each part of the test…..

I wonder what is your average time spent on a MCQ?

I sometimes spend up to 5 to 10 minutes on one to wright notes or attempt to come up with the answer before I seek the answer. I wonder if this strategy has given bad results to any of you.

Taking longer on MCQ is good now but obviously for the test this would be suicide. Focus taking more time on the questions you answer incorrectly. Good luck.

@monty for me if i don't know how to solve a MCQ without even looking to choices

i will not take the time guessing

the first time on Far i was guessing the right question and that takes a lot of time

now i am better that i can get the answer without looking for choices (if it is a calculation question)

and for sure for less than 3 minutes and with mid to high 80's in all sections

what i did so i can do this is just master the section before taking MC

    good luck

I am beginning to go through the Becker MCQ's for all sections again but on my first round I was sometimes spending 5 minutes on a really tough question doing the same thing writing down notes and making sure I understand the why. That is more important than simply memorizing nmeumonics or formulas. I haven't taken FAR yet but I've taken Reg and Aud and on both it was more important to understand the underlying concepts than to just cram a bunch of nmumonics into your head.

I feel the same on a one hit wonder on so many topics! Problem with that is that it will be a one hit wonder that you have to know every little minutia detail to solve. After going through all the sections I am ready to review and knock this thing out… than just BEC!
