tmturner74MemberIs it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.
I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!
Aud- 11/28/12 (72), 02/27/13 (72), 04/06/2013 77!!

Tina82Memberzahid I don't know too much about yeager, but if you have the $$, ninja notes + wiley test bank is a great value for the price in case you want to add to your materials.

GroudParticipant34 days until my first FAR try. At my disposal:
Becker Audio Lectures (32 hours)
Becker textbook (1000+ pages)
Becker PassMasters (1600+ MCQs)
Wiley Test Bank
I listened to the first 2 of the 10 audio lectures, and just cant stand Tim's voice. Ive done maybe 100 MCQs total. How would you guys plan the next 34 days? I'm thinking suffer through the remaining 8 lectures (about 24 hours remaining) as best I can until there done (hopefully within 7 days) and use the remaining 27 days to do a full wiley practice exam per night and do passmasters whenever I can throughout the day.
Are there enough questions in the Wiley test bank to make it worth doing a new one every day? Or will I get too many repeating questions so as to dilute my learning?
What I keep seeing from people on here regarding FAR is just forget audio lectures and do as many MCQ's as I can take. And the all-too-typical ninja notes, which I'm skeptical of because it seems to be sponsored on this forum, or in our terms, lacking independence.

Tina82MemberGroud – it depends how you learn. I try to go through the book first and only watch videos if I'm having trouble understanding the material.
Re: Wiley test bank – some questions are similar but the more practice you can get the better. Also, I find that it gives a slightly different perspective on the material. I use Becker mcqs as primary material and do however many wiley questions I have time for. Typically use them during final review.
Re: Ninja notes – nobody on this forum gets paid to promote ninja notes. They are a great tool and people recommend them because they get results not because they are a part of this forum. I think Jeff gives away free chapters to try so make sure check them out.

HustlinHustlinMemberDoes anyone have the NINJA audio for 2013? I never thought to buy it, but it seems to have helped a lot of people.
FAR is going to be my biggest beast. I feel like no matter how much I go over everything I get tripped up in detail and just need it to be embedded in my mind.
Can't wait to just move onto REG and be done with!

ggusheeMemberHi All,
I was wondering if any one can help me with these questions:
I came across a SIM in Wiley text bookregarding bonds that I cannot figure out how they came to the answer for the journal entries in the text book. The solution gives no explanation only the Journal entries
Can someone please help with the explanation to the answer so I can understand how the numbers were derived.
The question is
On Sept 1 2010 Castle issued for $530,000 cash, 500 7% five year non convertible bonds dated Sept 1 2010. Each $1000 bond had a detachable stock purchase warrant to purchase 20 shares of $3 par value stock for $10 per share. Immediately after issuance the warrants had a market value of $45,000 and the bonds were selling at $102 without the warrants.
The solution in the text book is:
Cash dr 530,000
Discount on Bonds Payable dr $12,973
Bonds Payable $500,000
APIC warrants cr $42,973
I cannot figure out the calculation for APIC for 42,973 and the discount on Bonds Payable for $ 12,973.
The second part to the question is
On Jan 1 2006 castle issued 100 ten year convertible bonds. Each $1000 bond is convertible into 20 shares of Castles $10 par value common stock. The bonds were issued at 105 when the common stock traded for $40 per share. The bonds pay interest annually. The conversion features of the bond are not beneficial. On October 1 2010 half of the bonds were tendered for conversion when the common stock was trading at $62 per share. Castle uses book value method to account for the conversion. At the time of conversion the bonds had a carrying value of $104,300. Castle does not elect the fair value option for reporting these financial liabilities.
The solution in the book is
Dr Bonds payable 50,000
Dr Premium on Bonds Payable 2,150
Cr Common Stock 10,000
Cr APIC 42,150
I cannot figure out how they came up with the 41,250 or 2,150.
I appreciate everyones help. I really struggle with bond the first time I took FAR. For the second time around I want to make sure I understand the concepts. Thanks….
