AnthonyParticipantOne of the biggest flaw IMO, of Ninja MCQ is the sims aren't very good.
For some people like myself, just doing MCQ won't translate doing well on sims. For others, it will translate. If you're the type of person who can just do MCQ and do well on the sims by doing nothing but MCQ then yes, Ninja is an amazing supplement.
This is probably the biggest reason why I killed it on MCQ on my first attempt and poorly on sims. Ever since I've found out I failed, I got Gleim and hit sims hard. Yes, what you see on Gleim won't be the same, but I find it very helpful to get very comfortable with the format and how to attack it. I don't want to be the deer in front of a headlight when I do the sims on exam day.

aatouralParticipantI agree. I think I am the same way as you in the sense that just doing straight out MCQs wont do it for me in SIMs. I actually had to work out problems to get a good feel on working SIMs. I used Gleim for REG and it did help that part.
I wonder how is Gleim doing with the updated exam now?
Becker added a “Practice area” which is like doing extra SIMs but they have the videos as well explaining the ins and outs of the answers.

mtaylo24ParticipantThe only thing you can really do is take note of any areas not seen in MCQs. I know the calcs are loaded in the Gleim sim bank. Other than that, get comfy with the formats (research, pop-up/fill in blanks, Drs, manual calcs). Honestly, knowing JEs might be more beneficial than studying sims.
Edit: Never used the Ninja sims so I have no opinion on them

AnonymousInactiveHave to agree about JE. They are so freaking helpful. Btw, @aatoura, i am the same, missing so many questions because i rush and dont read carefully. For me, it happens so often when i do more than 30 questions in a sitting…. i dont know what to do

krstnamParticipant@eabrookie I think if you got the 10 point combo with videos and everything you could probably use NINJA as a stand alone. I can't remember their handles, but there are several people on this forum that have used exclusively NINJA materials.
I bought BECKER first and it has been pretty good. They will give you 18 months of interest free financing. It works out to be like $120/month which is expensive but not horrible when chopped up into smaller payments. I think a lot of what you do is probably dependent on your starting point…I have been out of school for so long, a lot of the “review” items were more like ancient history to me and I had to relearn. Since I was at that disadvantage, I think I required a more beefy setup so BECKER was a good choice for me. I supplemented with NINJA mcq/audio/notes and that has been helpful. I think once you get into study mode you'll get an idea of what works for you and what does not. Also, a lot of the review courses will give you a free trial. I'd caution you though, I didn't like the NINJA setup at first – it was confusing, I didn't know where to go. But after poking around for not even an hour, things started making more sense. NINJA also has detailed scoring of content areas which is helpful for studying – especially when your on crunch time.

mtaylo24ParticipantIf I had the money I would check out Surgent, (no disrespect to the Ninjas). Its looks suspiciously identical to Nnja MCQ, but you have texts, videos, and slides baked in. It doesn't get a lot of play around here, probably for good reason.

averiagaskinParticipantI have a question I got wrong from Roger's ICQ from Chapter 2-Cash Equivalents & Balance Sheet. I chose $1,630,000 as the correct question. Why does the tax expense need to be moved from prepaid tax for this question? I thought the prepaid asset can sit there until correct the month comes to expense it, but can't this carry into the next year? I am just looking for a trigger word in this question so I know to move the tax to expense and reduce the income to get the question correct…
Dr. Cr.
Cash $550,000
Accounts receivable, net $1,650,000
Prepaid taxes $300,000
Accounts payable $120,000
Common stock $500,000
Additional paid-in capital $680,000
Retained earnings $630,000
Foreign currency translation adjustment $430,000
Revenues $3,600,000
Expenses $2,600,000
$5,530,000 $5,530,000Additional information:
During 20X3, estimated tax payments of $300,000 were charged to prepaid taxes. Trey has not yet recorded income tax expense. There were no differences between financial statement and income tax income, and Trey's tax rate is 30%.
Included in accounts receivable is $500,000 due from a customer. Special terms granted to this customer require payment in equal semi-annual installments of $125,000 every April 1 and October 1.
In Trey's December 31, 20X3, balance sheet, what amount should be reported as total retained earnings?
YOUR ANSWER WAS INCORRECT:
$1,029,000
$1,200,000
$1,330,000
$1,630,000
INCORRECT ANSWER EXPLANATION:
Incorrect. The foreign currency translation adjustment would be an adjustment to stockholders' equity, but would not affect retained earnings. Net income consists of revenues of $3,600,000 and expenses of $2,600,000 giving a pretax amount of $1,000,000. At 30%, taxes will be $300,000 reducing net income to $700,000. When added to beginning retained earnings of $630,000, the ending balance is $1,330,000.April 11, 2017 at 3:39 pm #1532062
AnthonyParticipant1000k + 630k = 1630k
This would be operating income of 1000000 + the retained earnings of 630k
Net income flows into retained earnings, not operating income. Net income would mean you need to take inconsideration of the taxes. 30% of 1000k = 300k in taxes.
700k net income + retained earnings of 630k = 1330k

aatouralParticipantHas anybody heard from the people that has taken FAR in this quarter yet? Im anxious.
@Mtaylo24 – Has Gleim added extra SIMS? I am doing what you suggested on the JEs and trying to always solve everything from that perspective rather than doing formulas to calculate. It does help.BEC - PASSED
