@yo831ca, They are only asking for income. Under the equity method, you would only recognize dividends as income if it was a preferred dividend. If the last line wanted to know the carrying amount of your investment, then you have to add your income to your initial amount and then Subtract the dividend (all in your balance sheet), but they only want to know how much you earned from your investment (income only – income statement).
