@yo831ca, They are only asking for income. Under the equity method, you would only recognize dividends as income if it was a preferred dividend. If the last line wanted to know the carrying amount of your investment, then you have to add your income to your initial amount and then Subtract the dividend (all in your balance sheet), but they only want to know how much you earned from your investment (income only – income statement). I hope this helps.

Does anyone think that NINJA MCQ for FAR is much better than Becker?

@automn3 That's what's up! I need you to keep me on track!

@SallyCPA What's wrong with Becker? My experience has been Gleim is good to learn on, but terrible for Final review (enter Ninja). Ninja isn't the best to learn on (enter Gleim), but good for Final Review. It might benefit you to work start with Becker then switch to Ninja towards the end.

@hwasup7 For me it was worth it to re-read Becker one last time in the last week. I took my notes on notecards, making them essentially flashcards, instead of taking notes on paper, and I had those next to me as I was re-reading, to make sure I remembered what I considered the high points before.

@mtaylo24 this will be your last exam 🙂

Ok i need advice: i have been doing the “old school” method: listen to the lectures, read the book, highlight, and do MCQ after each section. I am thinking to go the ninja way, do you guys recommend it? has any of you tried it? Am i too late? I am just finding it difficult to remember the earlier chapters (those small details that is) so i need to change something. I plan to do a lot of sims and njnja MCQ the last 2.5 weeks as my review.

@YO831ca okkk really don't know how the reply works, maybe putting your name? regarding you question, if you hava Becker in pag F4-26 module 2 you'll see a graph explaining fair vale and equity method. if not, for the equity method what goes in the
Income statement is the 1) share of income (investee income), 2) goodwill (+ land) less 3) the amortized FV>NBV
balance sheet “investment account” is 1) purchase price plus 2) investee income less 3) amortized FV>NBV less 4)investee dividends

@mtaylo24 I have been using Becker for every test but didn't start passing any exam until I started with Ninja MCQ. The new Becker format is really difficult to do cumulative progress tests especially with FAR having so much material. With BEC and REG I used Becker mainly to learn everything and write notes, then I would do NINJA MCQ while I was going through Becker. I love the adaptive learning with NINJA but I feel like I can only start using it after I get through all of the FAR Becker material.

@sally, So we are in the same boat. Definitely try to budget 2-3 weeks for Ninja. When do you sit?

I am on Ch 19 of 20 with Gleim. Just attacking both the TB and sim banks, studying JEs here and there. I may read later idk lol. I'm going to go through all of my missed questions in Gleim after I finish this round, then I'm switching to Ninja and will probably do the same thing.

@mtaylo24 For some reason I feel like NINJA's format makes all the difference. I don't have any experience with Gliem…what do you think are the most important topics that you've seen on FAR? Also when are you taking it?

@SallyCPA I'm sitting on May 23, but trying to push it back. Its all important, but knowing Government/NFP and IFRS differences are a must! Everything else is fair game.

@mtaylo24 – Hopefully you find that spot the last week. I was thinking about moving it to the 30 if something opens up because that is a long weekend for us.

I agree with you on the Governmental & NFP and GAAP vs IFRS. They are a MUST indeed!

Does anybody have (or know where I can find) a good summary of the going concern basis and the liquidation basis of accounting? Becker book does a very poor job on it and I cant seem to get MCQs on that topic right because I did not get enough knowledge from the 3 pages the book has.
