I’ve had a few requests for April/May Study Groups…March will be here before you know it.

In order to take an early April exam, you should begin studying…now. 🙂

If you click on your name it shows your history of posting so you should always just go there first. With so few of us it will get hidden quickly in the sea of threads if you try to search the main page for it. I don't know how to copy out of the WTB if it doesn't let you copy it the regular way. I've never tried.

Kim/CPAMommy- that's a great point on the variety of unit sizes, I noticed the same thing today when I nosedive into Unit 9. It's a huge amount of material but I'm classifying it as mostly memorization stuff so I'm just going to plug through it this week to get an idea of what I don't know, taking good notes and saving it for my final review when I go through my memorization process. My main focus early on is going to be on topics that A) Are not a strength B) Are a significant topic covered on the exam and C) Are conceptual and problem based which means they could also be included in the sims and could take some time to “sink In”. It's a different approach but there is just way too much material to go front to back 100%. I hope to get to everything but if I don't I want to be sure I get the priorities down first…

Yes I'm definitely down for a separate thread, there appears to be enough of us which is always a good thing…

Jeff deleted it because he didn't want it to prompt a bunch of specific review course study threads for each quarter and each exam. It's okay. We would have lost the benefit of having so many other people to help answer questions and being able to see nonWiley questions. I may still post questions like Wiley page xx, # xx just so I don't have to type it all out.

@howmanyletters–I agree. I want to read everything, but I am going to spend the majority of my “study” time on the main areas that we know are questioned a lot of the exam.

I have such a hard time focusing on the weekends due to family and just wanting to relax after a long week of work a studying. I will be back at it again tonight. It seems like I stay on track much better through the week because of work and I guess because my days are more structured than the weekends. I hope to be able to finish my Yaeger lectures in the next week and a half and be able to move on to the real challenge of the MCQ's.

I agree Jen. I'm already in work mode during the week so to study for a few hours after work is no big deal while studying on the weekends makes me feel robbed somehow…hah….plus I have a hunch my girlfriend thinks it's some kind of ploy to get some time away from her or something. Or at least she did until I showed her the FAR Wiley book and then she understood hah..

@howmanyletters – Yes, just tell her you have a date with Wiley. She should be very jealous, ha.

Jen123 – I'm with ya. I had 5 wedding venue visits, plus a dog so sick he was in the hospital overnight, I was/am emotionally and physically exhausted. Being very behind now (2.5 sections behind) is hopefully going to give me a big push. I bought some vitamins to help keep energy levels stable (hopefully). F3 (marketable securities and consolidated statements) is killing me, but I'm determined to push through and revisit later just so I stop being stuck/frustrated.

    Hello all,

I am not sure if I am just on information overload but can someone explain this to me. I don't understand how I am suppose to know Bond A is a debt security.

Ace, Ltd. reports under IFRS. For the current fiscal year, Ace showed the following gains and losses related to its available for sale securities:

Stock A, unrealized gain of $5,000

Stock B, foreign exchange gain of $1,500

Bond A, foreign exchange loss of $2,300

Bond B, unrealized loss of $450

The amount that Ace will report as other comprehensive income is:

    a. $6,050

    b. $6,500

    c. $4,550

    d. $2,250

    Explanation

Choice “a” is correct. Under IFRS, unrealized gains and losses for all available for sale securities and foreign exchange gains and losses for available for sale equity securities are reported as other comprehensive income. Foreign exchange gains and losses on available for sale debt securities are reported on the income statement. The $5,000 unrealized gain for Stock A, the $1,500 foreign exchange gain for Stock B, and the $450 unrealized loss for Bond B should all be included in other comprehensive income ($5,000 + $1,500 – $450 = $6,050). The foreign exchange loss of $2,300 for Bond A should be reported on the income statement.

Did you guys see the post from the guy that passed all 4 parts using the Ninja 10 point combo only. Not as a supplement but as his actual entire review material? Do you think it's possible? Reading these books and watching lectures just makes me want to sleep. I'm too chicken to try it, but I wondered if any of you thought it was actually possible.

CPAMom – It was a great post! Honestly, that was my original plan. Once I really reviewed the NN though, I wanted something more for reference than anything else, there just wasn't enough meat. I know you can use the Wiley test bank explanations for incorrect questions but I wanted something more condensed. As of right now I skim the chapters and answer the book questions, reviewing the chapter/taking notes only when a particular topic just misses me entirely. Like you, reading the entire book front to back would just kill me and videos just don't do anything for me. For me, I think skimming/reviewing a book as needed combined with regular repeated reading/listening to the NN is the perfect middle ground. Who knows though I'm just a first timer here…

Speaking of which, Unit 9 is killing me…lol

jennibfox, you are probably on information overload. Bond investments are debt securities by their nature, not equities.

Still trying to make it through F3….and as I sit here crying contemplating how I don't know this stuff/how it isn't clicking I manage to send my drink flying spilling all over my face, neck, and shirt. Feel like giving up….
