AnonymousInactiveI agree with getting the Ninja Notes if you don't have them. That's probably another reason why I am not writing as many notes now. I have the Ninja Notes and a bunch of notes written from when I read the book. Now is just fill in notes on concepts I want more emphasis on.

How many letters do you needParticipantAs a side note…I was taking a closer look at my NTS and I was really disapointed that I won't be able to bring my calculator watch, beeper or tape recorder into the testing center.
MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

AnonymousInactiveHa! I was upset to find out weapons weren't allowed. It means I can't go all Office Space on the computer when I get stuck on a problem or on the fingerprint scanner when it won't read my print unless the lady twists my finger painfully. Side not–don't you think it's time they removed “Draft Classification Card” from the unacceptable forms of ID. Not sure anyone has those anymore. Oh wait–maybe if they are international…

AnonymousInactive@Tee, how did you end up with your written notes up on your knees now? How will you be able to get back to them for review?
I usually write my notes from each chapter that Iโve studied and I treat them as my major notes, along with NINJA notes. I also keep my improvised flashcards from various sources that I know, worth reviewing back and forth. I donโt keep duplicates of them. The way I review them is to read them and then, literally re-write them on sheets. As if I were practicing and checking if I can write them on my own words. Daily, I toss these sheets afterwards since I already have them written down (on either Major Notes, Flashcards, & NINJA). Iโve probably tossed about 2 reams of duplicate notes. I donโt want to keep these duplicates or pile them up in fear that when theyโre above my neck, I wonโt be able to review them again especially during the last 48 hours or so prior to the actual day.
Do you think guys I am doing this approach wrong?

CPAfitParticipantHello guys! been out of here for 2 days and I've missed so much already. Got some bittersweet news, as of this week I got relocated to a new dept. in my company with added responsibilities that might result in a promotion some time later this year. On the down side, now I get less time to study during work hours and have to stay an hour late everyday until I do my first month end closing ๐ I guess setting my date for FAR in MAY was not such a bad idea after all.
@mommyof30 ur doing great from what I've read on the ur previous posts. Just hang in there and keep knocking those MCQs out. You've got this mamabear ๐

teeteenounoucheMemberCongrats zubairs, that is an awesome move!…the late hours will be worth it ๐
Amor, that is exactly my issue, I have so many notes and I can never get back to them all before the exam…that's why I am focusing on MCQs and reviewing my stack of notes when I need them. I don't need to actually write more notes, I need to practice MCQs and write out weak areas…that's the plan for this week anyway…will let you know if it changes next week ๐

AnonymousInactiveHey Zubairs! Congrats on the promotion!! Thanks for the support! May was probably a good idea in light of all your new responsibilities. ๐ If I didn't need to sit for REG in the beginning of July….. I put added pressure on myself to save a few bucks by scheduling two exams at the same time.

CPAfitParticipant@teetee thanks a lot! I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything but at this point in my life I really was not looking forward to this move, I just want to finish my exam for now and focus on my career after that. A lot of times I've thought about quitting my job and focusing on finishing this exam and my dad is very supportive of my CPA journey so he says if I ever have to I should. But then I come on this forum, see people like you(@tetee), @Mommy and @Baxter and all others who are doing it with Full time jobs, Husbands and kids and I feel so ashamed of myself that how can I even think about quitting my job. I say to myself, “Zubair you will do this and you will pass FAR & REG on your first try and you're gonna be one hell of a CPA!”. I want to thank you all for keeping me motivated and sane ๐

oilgaslbMemberSo much for studying at work today…I got a call from my dr. that I need to come in right away for a follow up (ALWAYS good news, right?! lol). So I've gotta work for another hour then leave, and come back to finish my day. Maybe tonight will be productive?
March 18, 2014 at 6:32 pm #561543
AnonymousInactiveDo not feel ashamed at all! I have thought the same thing a time or two, but then I realize that without my job we would lose our house I am slapped back into reality. Then where would I study??? ๐ This would be so much easier without a full time job for sure. You can pass both on the first try! I'll be in REG with you too. We'll push each other!

AnonymousInactiveF1 Income Statement Q 56, find net income:
Gross sales
$ 3,600,000
Cost of goods sold
1,200,000
Selling and administrative expense
500,000
Adjustment for a prior-year understatement of amortization expense
59,000
Sales returns
34,000
Gain on sale of available-for-sale securities
8,000
Gain on disposal of a discontinued business segment
4,000
Unrealized gain on available-for-sale securities
2,000
And the answer:
Net sales
$ 3,566,000
= $3,600,000 gross sales – $34,000 sales returns
Cost of goods sold
(1,200,000)
Gross profit
2,366,000
Selling and administrative
(500,000)
Operating income
1,866,000
Other income (gain on sale)
8,000
Income from continuing operations
1,874,000
Income tax expense
(562,200)
= $1,874,000 ร 30%
Income before discontinued operations
1,311,800
Gain from discounted segment (after tax)
2,800
= $4,000 ร (1 โ 30%)
Net income
$ 1,314,600
Why don't the sales returns affect COGS? Or did they already affect COGS and are reflected on the income statement?
