@KRina–my suggestion is to take sets of 30 MCQ to mimic actual exam testlets. When you have less questions in a set you tend to not get as overwhelmed and will be more likely to read the entire question. Also, be sure to read the last sentence first so you will know what they are asking for before you read all the details. In many cases you can have 3-4 questions that are exactly the same with all the same information given, but each question (last sentence) asks something different. If you read the last sentence first you'll know what you can weed out as you are reading.
My boss is gone tomorrow – so I've got the same plan as you guys. I'm gonna knock out all my work stuff today, and hopefully be able to study tons tomorrow. I read through all of the outlines, so now I've gotta work on MCQ over, and over, and over, and over again. Oh, joy! At least someone brought in Irish carbomb cupcakes (alcohol included), so if I have enough of them (3 down so far – they're mini ones), today can go by pleasantly 😉
Haha oilgas…nice! Let me know if it helps with pensions. Pretty sure the people who thought of pension accounting were drunk, maybe I need to be drunk to get it
@KRina, I had the very same issue you did. I decided to skip to the bottom of the paragraph and write down key words for what the question was asking..
For example, if the question askes “how much interest revenue would company a receive from company b on the notes receivable in year 3″ i would write down, FIRST, ” company a interest revenue YR3″ – this way I know what they are looking for and what i should narrow down to after reading the question. I would then read the question and solve for the key words I wrote down.
Today I start the next three chapters review. I have to admit that chapter 2 and 3 for Becker are horrible… I'll do 30 McQ when I get home every day before starting the new chapters. I want to take omorrow off from work and I'm hoping I can get a lot done. Happy Monday studying for everyone :0) I'm wishing for next year to enjoy St. Patricks day since I won't have to be studying.
I just spent 20 mins on one Bond question…but…I GET it now. I think I will be able to get it done faster next time.
AleFLCPA, do you have a specific question we can go over?

For the acquisition I'm not sure how to calculate goodwill. I know that we record the eliminating je in the parent company which is where we eliminate the investment in the sub, bring all met assets to th patents book. How do we record goodwill? What is it that we have to look at in order to get he number? I'm at work now and don't have the book with me to go over an example but I can be more specificity when I get home tonight.. teeteenounouche, thanks for helping!!
CPAMommyof3, you have time to get everything done!! You will do great on the exam 🙂 keep calm and think positive. Have you finish going over all ur review material? How much time will you have for your review?
@cpamommy. Slow deep breaths. Just remain calm and know that everything will come together at the right time. You got to rid your mind of frantic thoughts b/c they use to much energy. Sit down, sketch out a plan with the time you have left, work that plan, test, and wait for your passing score!
AleFLCPA, my notes say for GAAP: Goodwill = Fair value of subsidiary – Fair value of subsidiary's net assets
We can look at specifics when you have an example…

In a good note… I was able to schedule my test in the morning. My other 3 test I took in the mornings when I passed them. That makes me feel a little more relax as I took FAR in the middle of the day and I didn't pass 🙂 Am I the only superstitious in this group??? Lol
lol AleFLCPA, you're not the only one…every time I have failed an exam, I was placed in the same row and I passed in the other rows. I will raise heck in there if they put me in that row this time lmao 🙂
