I’ve had a few requests for April/May Study Groups…March will be here before you know it.

In order to take an early April exam, you should begin studying…now. 🙂

Hiya Zubairs – whats troubling you with REG ?

Is it tax or Law ?

@brainfarts still on tax. Watching becker lectures and the amount of information is overwhelming. I felt the same with FAR in the begining but in the end it all came together and hopefully it was enough to pass. With REG the biggest problem is that I've never studied or paid taxes in my life. So I have no idea even with simplest of concepts like deductions, exemptions, claiming etc. I have to look up each and every word coming out of the lecturers mouth. I think the lectures are presented in a way that people watching it must be having some basic idea about the topic presented but for me tax is just foreign

Ok so with me I have never done USA tax before.

This is how I managed to get Tax in my head well.

    1. Individual Taxes

Write down the flow of 1040

IE Start with – Gross Income

    – or + Adjustments – I EMBRACED EHF

    = AGI

    – Deductions – (COMMITT)

    – Credits

Etc.. Keep writing this on paper over and over again until you know

Casualty loss is a Deduction and Alimony is an adjustment.

IE Understand what effects Gross Income to come to AGI and what is part of deductions.

Thats when it starts to make more sense.

Same applies to Corp tax S Corps and Partnerships. Then by doing so many practice questions it started becoming much easier to understand and be able to answer the questions.

B Law – this for me was harder as it was legally mambo jambo. The way i got good at business law was looking for keywords in the question to know this is the answer they are looking for. people hated commercial papers and at first I hated it too. but after a while I was able to make sense of it and it was one of my favorite areas in B Law.

REG sim are tough.. like really tough…

@brainfarts thanks a lot for all the info I'll make notes of it for now. I can only imagine how tough REG's SIMs would be so let's just hope for the best. Also don't leave the forum once you pass FAR and keep checking in on us in the REG study group I can always use your help 🙂

@Kenada–Thanks for that info too. I am not a fan of REG either. Didn't like either topics in school and I swear my blaw professor only passed me because I was 8.5 months pregnant by the end of the term and had to stand up in the back of the class for the last month because the wooden chairs were too painful for me to sit in for the entire 3 hour sessions. I had to write my final standing up using a clipboard. Hahaha.

@mamabear lmao that sounds funny and painful 😛 Well at least you passed the course. Hopefully you will not require to get pregnant to pass this exam

Ha Zubairs! I sure hope not. This mama is tired! I went to the pool hall on Saturday to watch my dad play in a tournament and I saw a bunch of my old team mates and one of them said, “Wow! I don't think I remember ever seeing you when you weren't pregnant!” That's pretty much the consensus with everyone I work with too. I'm trying to enjoy an extended period of nonpregnancy before I consider becoming CPAMommyof4. 🙂

@NJPRU–WHEN you pass FAR you need to study REG! Howmany, zubairs, and I are going to need some more familiar screen names in the study group. 🙂

    Hiya

I have been reading the FAR experience thread way back to 2 years ago trying to figure out the experience of people who thought they failed and ended up passing. I think im going crazy and becoming increasingly skeptical about my performance day in and day out. The experience thread kind of calmed down my nerves a little bit but thats their experience and I'm not sure if it really relates to mine…lol

This waiting period is very excruciating, its even worse than exam day. Hope you guys had a great weekend.

    BEC- 59│70│ 71 │78!
    AUD- 75!

    Any time Zubairs and Mamabear.

I would say REG was interesting so I never felt bored learning it.

But I felt it was tough doing the exam esp since the SIM come out of nowhere and on very small topics. Like I literally had 2 sims that where on a topic that was just a page long in Wiley and Rogers book.

So for REG – don't understate anything. Understand the concepts very well and you can do well in the SIM's.

Also I did look up at lot of things online on the IRS publication website. Just as an additional source of material to read up on and get a better understanding a topic perhaps your CPA review provider hasn't explained well.

Lastly – its the study group participation that helped me get through the exam.

Sure I will be around 🙂

Hi Stoleway – I think most of us feel the same way….I have seen a lot of comments of people who thought they failed and passed. I have also seen the opposite as well. I say let's enjoy the ride until Friday morning. Who knows we may be all celebrating a win and have created a new approach to study groups on Another71 (Thanks Jeff).

But Mama – if I do REG, that means no “slacking off” and being able to go to the beach on the weekend. I can bring my BEC book and do some reading, REG.. not so much. 😛

@stoleway – I feel the EXACT same way. I was sick as a dog during the exam, and gave it my all.. and I know I did well on 4/7 SIMS and had two “easy-medium” testletts and one “hard”. My exam experience wasn't “bad” by all means, just long and tiredsome because of how I felt. I dont know if it's because I didn't feel well, but I'm really not stressing or even thinking about my score. BUT I'm not sure if I felt well I would have been stressing either. I'm indifferent really and I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing.. what I do know is that by reading the experience thread, I feel more at “ease”.

    FAR: DONE
    BEC: DONE
    REG: DONE
