MichellehMemberJust found out I failed FAR for the third time!!! I am angry and will use that anger to schedule my retake for April and kick some FAR butt!!!! I am using Cpaexcel and Ninja 10point combo lite. I had a call from a lambers salesperson today of all days but told her I could not think straight and I would not buy it today. Has anyone used lambers?? At this point, I am willing to try anything.

AnonymousInactiveI don't want to say welcome to all the newcomers because I know you don't want to be here, but I have faith in each and every one of you. We can all do this. I think government and NFP questions need to start popping up on here soon because it seems to be the consensus that those are tested heavily. Almost done consolidating my notes and then I plan to MCQ until my brain hurts and then go back and reread problem chapters. Let's do it!!!

AnonymousInactiveI just have to say that I am so thankful to understand T-accounts. They have made some of my quizzing go suprisingly well because I don't have to memorize formulas.

SpartanCPAMemberQ1 test takers who didn't pass, keep your heads up! We all can do this…together.
I just scheduled my exam for 4/16/14. I should be finishing up F9 this weekend and maybe get a head start on F10. This should leave me with about 4-5 weeks to review and really hammer down the concepts.
Stay positive, keep working, and we're all going to make it.

AnonymousInactiveSpartan–since you're almost done with all the material, would you happen to have any good tips for nailing down some of these sections? I do very poorly in partnerships, government, and bonds. I think I can get the bonds down with more practice, but I seriously don't know how else to make partnerships stick. I've worked all the MCQ in WTB and each question feels like I'm reading another language. I don't know which calculations to use or really where to start with the questions. It is so frustrating because I have spent a lot of time on that topic. I just don't get it.

Rani MuMemberToday I finally passed last paper FAR with score of 87. I had been reading this forum from Jan 2014.I would just like to share my experience, if helpful .I have a foreign degree in accounting ,so US GAAP was totally new to me. Though basic accounting remains the same but many concepts were different. Secondly didn't have enough money to spend on expensive review courses. I needed something which was more detail and explanatory.
So first I googled how many hours study is required .I figured out for each paper you need about 140 hours of study. I literally wrote down how many constructive hours I studied each day. Secondly I brought Wiley ‘s text book and started studying from first of Jan 2014 and appeared on Feb 19,2014 .I found Wiley text book covers most of topics with good explanation. When it was difficult to understand topics like pensions ,deferred taxation ,govt and not for profit I referred CPAreviewforfree with subscription of around $15 I think. Finally I used ninja notes for refreshing what I had done earlier. I believe before doing tons of MCQ understand the concepts behind it. Last few days, I went through earlier released AICPA question and did about 25 to 30 simulations from Wiley's Test Bank.
My study plan was almost similar for other three parts also .
AUD 86 ,BEC 83,REG 87 and FAR 87

AnonymousInactive@Rani Mu–Thanks for the Tips. I'm using Wiley so it is encouraging that you used the same amterials and did so well on the exam. I'm having trouble with some of the concepts so the MCQs are not going as well as I had hoped. I will try reading the chapters I'm having trouble with again and see if I can get it to stick.

SpartanCPAMember@CPAMommyof3 I've also had a tough time with partnerships so I can't really help you much there as I am trying to make it stick as well. As for government and bonds, do you have any particular area or concept you have difficulty understanding?

AnonymousInactive@spartan–with bonds I understand the amortization tables completely, but I do have trouble remembering all of the diffferent JEs. Do you have any suggestions for that? There just seem to be so many different ones. For government I think it's just that it is so different than anything I've done before. I think I just need to work on it more.

klink24ParticipantI'm moving along in my studies but don't think I'm moving fast enough. Using CPAExcel and just starting Inventory. Got stuck on Present Value calculations on Notes Receivables for about a day. Had to jog my memory on PV, but I have it down now. As I go along though, I do MCQs on topics that I struggle to understand so I can get it down immediately instead of waiting for review. Seems to help a lot.
My main issue is making careless mistakes. For instance, when working on impairment of receivables, I used the carrying value to calculate the present value instead of the present value of the EXPECTED cash flow. Of course now that I realize the difference between the carrying value and present value of the expected cash flow is the impairment it seems so simple. I just keep making these type of careless mistakes. Anyone else feel this way?

jhawkins1010MemberI know I'm pretty late to the party, but I'm going to jump in anyway. I'm studying for FAR using Gleim. Sooo much material. I'm currently in subunit 10 (of 20). Ok using Jeff's method of going through all the videos. I'm dying to start in on the questions. I originally planned to sit in April, but wasn't buckling down in my studying. (The test is my worst nightmare so I keep finding reasons to put if off.) So, I'm shooting for May. I've been getting some good studying in and feeling a bit more motivated than I have in awhile, so I hope that gets me somewhere. Wishing everyone dedication, focus and some plain old good luck.

oilgaslbMember@mommy, you and me both. I'm still going at it, but discouraged. As my mom always said to me growing up…”tomorrow is a new day.” 🙂
