I’ve had a few requests for April/May Study Groups…March will be here before you know it.

In order to take an early April exam, you should begin studying…now. 🙂

    @Cracked

I want to take it 04/12.

No, I do not feel confident with the material I've covered so far – I need to do bunches and bunches of MSQs to master the material. I do take very good notes while watching lectures. I can recall a lot of facts flipping through them.

Power week/weekend sounds good here. I just spent all day working from home (so difficult to work with a 2 monitor PC on my 1 screen Macbook!) with a sick kid (double pink eye!). Just got done working now, but my brain needs a quick break. I think I'll throw some laundry in, clean the kitchen, finish what I didn't last night, then keep going after dinner. So exhausted, but it's beginning to worry me that I won't catch up in time and will be left where I ended up last time…

Does anyone else feel like they can't even remember which sections you've covered when you have a couple of days off? I am so drained and I don't feel good about this at all. Sorry for the negativity. I usually try to be really positive. It's just been one of those weeks so far. 🙁

I'm with ya @mommy…I'm emotionally and physically drained. I thought my cold was wearing off, now I'm getting a fever/a bit achy…I don't have time for this sh**! If I could go to bed right now I would. Instead, I'm going to try to convince my fiancé to cook dinner for the 2nd time (yikes!) so that I can study instead of cook.

Hang in there gang, Snowed in again. Can't go out….if we can get out, can't get back in…….This is terrible. I don't know what's worse being sick, stir crazy, or stir crazy with a house full of grown teenagers that REALLY NEED TO GET OUT……rural tn is terrible about shoveling snow or salting the streets……this is a nightmare…..

Ok to answer the question…..No I do not remember all that I studied, I remember some, but not what I need to know to answer my mcq's

I think it's just a panic attack. Keep studying….32 days til far.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

Can someone please explain avoidable interest to me? I don't recall reading about it, and the explanation in a homework question I am seeing doesn't explain WHY you divide the expenditures by “2” if the total was incurred evenly throughout the year.

ie. Total amount spent on a construction project was $250,000, spent uniformly throughout the year. $200,000 was borrowed to help pay for the project at a rate of 10%. Avoidable interest = $12,500 (250,000/2 * .10).

What if $250,00 was spent between July and December?

What if it wasn't spent uniformly?

    Thanks!

Thanks @Wanna_B_TXCPA2014, i know it'll be time consuming but that's probably what i should do.

i gave up a summer trip to europe for this, and after 2 weeks of studying i feel like i picked the wrong option. However i will say i'm getting excited to take the exam bc then i can benchmark myself, and if i'm going about studying correctly. I'm starting to feel really comfortable with getting things wrong, and it's breaking me down enough to where i think about the questions a bit more, if that makes any sense.

@oilgas–what section are you in? I remember taking notes on avoidable interest, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

@zubairs hang in there brother! FAR is one of those exams that you get better with practice. The hard part is just being able to retain everything you learn. The sheer amount of material in this exam is exactly what people have been saying, a BEAST! At the end of the day, we will want it more and do what it takes to defeat it.

As for my progress, I have F7 sims left to complete and not looking forward to it >_<.

@CPAMommyof3 – I'm right here with ya. I think Ninja is very well suited for FAR – too much material, so easy to forget what you've already learned. I hope it will click when I re-write my notes.

@oilgas My notes say “avoidable” interest = average accumulated expenditures x interest rate x construction period=capitalized interest and in no case should the amount capitalized exceed the interest actually incurred. I believe the reason you divide by two is because you are looking for the AVERAGE accumulated expenditures so (0+250,000)/2

Hey Guys – I have two quick questions.

1). What is everyone doing to help remember IFRS vs GAAP rules throughout the study chapters; and

2). I am leaving for FL on Thursday and was wondering if there was an app or something I can purchase on my iPad so that I can practice problems on the plane. I don't know if there are offline study programs as most of them require internet connection.

I wish I could help you guys more with FAR, but it seems like my study stuff is all over the place. I just finished disclosures, Chapter 4 in Gleim, and it went over interim, uncertainty, segment reporting, subsequent events, RP, and FV.

I don't have an IPAD so I can't help you there. I would suggest getting the Ninja Notes to supplement your study materials. Jeff has a great section that outlines ONLY the differences between GAAP and IFRS from all the topics instead of having them spread throughout. If you don't want to buy those then I suggest making your own comprehensive list of IFRS differences in one place so you can study that solo.
