How many letters do you needParticipantMom – love the positive thinking!
I completely agree. The tests are random FAR fam, the topics, level of difficulty on Sims vs mcq…
Everybody just keep doing what you are doing, trust your study plan and keep plowing on!
I'm actually going to Vegas this weekend(a little pre-exam ritual of my own)…my amazing girlfriend is driving so I can study. Well to be honest I made her choose between driving and 8 hours of Jeff audio….she chose to drive.
Have a good weekend studying everybody….good luck to all who are scheduled for tomorrow!

oilgaslbMemberHey everyone. I haven't been on in forever and just scanned through the most recent pages. For those of you wondering, I'm alive! yay! Although it's been a bit of a whirlwind. I had a biopsy on Tuesday and will either have surgery or schedule surgery next Tuesday when the results are in (depends on on how severe). Right now my doctor eyeballed it as “moderate” so I'll need to have surgery regardless. Hopefully it's the least invasive as possible without chemo/radiation 🙂 I'll find out on Tuesday.
My exam is next Saturday and needless to say, I feel like I've forgotten everything that I had learned. I'm going to cram this weekend and try my hardest. But after I find out the results of my exam, at this time my mindset is that my health is more important than this exam, and I need to focus on building my immune system to fight cancer, than stress about a few extra dollars in my pocket/letters next to my name.
It sounds like you guys have been VERY productive and I love the impromptu testing within this thread! I wish I was at your level 🙂 For those that took it this week, I hope you get great results. For the rest of us, here's to hoping for the best! 🙂 Miss you guys!

HopefulCPA0601Member@oilgas: health is #1, this is only a test (even though we all stress and freak out and end like this is it) – get better and hope all the best for you during and after your surgery!

stolewayParticipantI am following the FAR experience thread with the needed caution. I think we are all scared cos we have studied so much, missed out on a lot of good sleep and other events. Im really hoping that I pass FAR on 1st attempt cos going back to that huge phone book will not augur well for me.

AnonymousInactiveWell by the time I got to question 30 of my 30 question quiz on Taxes, I actually remembered the difference between a DTL and a DTA. Oy vey. 63% on my first topic quiz. It's gonna be a long weekend, but I'm excited to nail down as many topics as I can in the next 48 hours.
April 5, 2014 at 12:50 am #563078
NJPRUMemberMom – the way that I quickly remember that was this formula:
Based on the Financial Statements:
DTL: Revenue (up arrow) Expenses (down arrow) — meaning, the Financial statements have recognized more revenue and less expenses than the tax return
DTA: Revenue (down arrow) Expenses (up arrow) — meaning, the Financial statements have recognized less revenue and more expenses than the tax return.
Once I memorized that simply graphic in my head – taxes became really easy for me. Just had to then memorize Deferred Expense and Current/Provision Expense.

AnonymousInactiveThanks NJPRU. Writing it down. I had taxes nailed at one point and then I left them alone to focus on other things. This is why review is so important!

How many letters do you needParticipantTaxes are so slippery!! I feel like I need to sit and ponder each tax question for 1 min or so and I still only average about 70% in WTB with some 50s and 60s in there. Thanks NJPRU…gonna give that a shot!
Oilgas – health does come first, take care and all the best. Pop back in from time to time and let us know how you are doing!

AnonymousInactiveI swear if I see the terms “fair value” used in one more topic I may scream. And they are accounted for in every different place possible. Geesh!

klink24ParticipantDid a 60-MCQ quiz that took me 2.5 hours. 73% score. This is the first real quiz I've taken after finishing the material, so I'm feeling a lot better about the material now. I have a pretty good sense of where I need to focus. Still coming across a bit that I simply didn't retain while going through the material.
I'm using Excel to keep track of the notes I take from the questions I'm missing. I have a separate tab for each topic, including one for IFRS and one for general notes not related to any one topic. Plan on printing these out once I've gone through enough MCQs and SIMs so I can read over them a few times before the exam.
