AnonymousInactive@NJPRU–I have convinced myself that I wasn't taught most of this stuff in college. It makes me feel better when I'm studying if I tell myself that. 🙂

NJPRUMember@CPAMommy – I will definitely tell myself that just before I start studying from now on. Your advice is brilliant! 😛

GoingToBeCPA87MemberI dont know if I was taught most of this but I know that its been so long that i might as well not have been taught any of it -_- But that gives me motivation to want to learn it so I can hopefully pass.
@jen123 the MC are actually very helpful to do in the book and although they are time consuming its a nice break and you also get information that is not obtained from reading or watching the material i.e. Question 47 in Module 10 had to do with the current ratio that was not covered anywhere else except in the MC. The one item I am having difficulty with is that I take too many notes and feel like I have to, if not the info doesn't sink in and this is super time consuming 2 modules= 2 1/2 legal pads

holycow_75MemberHi All – thanks for all the great posts so far. CPAMommy…I'm also using Wiley & Mod 9 is a beast. I am planning to take test on April 25. I've got Mod 9 behind me (notes & reading at least) and scoring decent on those MCQ's. So, hopefully I'm not too far behind.
I hope to knock out Inventory (Mod 10) and Fixed Assest (Mod 11) this week. I also purchased Ninja Blitz videos, but I found it more helpful to view those after I've made it through the written material. My method is:
1. Wiley Book – doing MCQ's & taking notes on each module
2. Ninja Blitz – taking notes for each video
3. Combining notes – from Wiley book & Ninja blitz (seems like he covers stuff in similar order to Wiley)
4. Finish out with tons of MCQ's & Sims
If anybody has other methods, I'd love to hear them. I'm open to trying anything over the next 8 weeks to slay this beast & be done!!!

GoingToBeCPA87Member@holycow_75 is this the same process youve used for your previous sections. I'm working the same system you are but I also have the Flash Cards and notes that I use. Do you take notes while you are reading Wiley? Do you feel like it takes you forever?

holycow_75Member@GoingToBeCPA87…yes…with one exception. I did not use Ninja Blitz for Audit…I was a little late to the game. But I do take notes as I read. And it takes a while to get through a Module in the Wiley Book!!
Now, I should say that I take high level notes of the main concepts – not detailed notes. When I'm using the the Wiley Test Bank, and I miss a question, then I go back to my notes & fill in as appropriate (or maybe back to that section in the book to re-read it). Ultimately, I've got 8 weeks left. So need to get through a couple sections per week on the material. I also try to do at least 150 MCQ's per week…and maybe 3-4 SIMs. If I spend 2 hours per day, I can get it done. It's usually my lunch hour, and then an hour or two after the kids go to bed each night.
And when I do the Ninja Blitz…I try to go to my wife's office on a Friday or Saturday night (total privacy) and just get through it. It takes several hours & a couple Starbuck's runs. But then I will have my notes from the Blitz & my notes from the Wiley book ready to go. If have those done about 10 days before the test…I'm in good shape to focus on MCQs & SIMs the last week or so.
That method has helped me do well so far…but I'm not kidding myself either. FAR is a nasty beast. I'm going to hit this one even harder!

AnonymousInactiveMod 9 is a beast! I got halfway through and decided to split up my reading in a different way. I am tackling the 5 smallest sections in Wiley this week and then doing 2-3 sections each week for the next 4 weeks, then reviewing it all for 2 weeks. I hope this way works instead of going in order. Inventory wasn't bad and derivatives wasn't awful although I still don't really understand the point of them. I think they were just created to confuse us. My company doesn't use them so they are a little out there to me, but since they are mainly conceptual I figure I should do okay on MCQ for them. Keep up the great work guys. We can do this!

GoingToBeCPA87Member@holycow_75 I'll be doing the ninja blitz while on the treadmill so im hoping those will help. Maybe I should pull away from the detailed notes. Do you do 150 MCQ's per week you do are those outside of the ones in the Wiley book?
@CPAMommyof3 you aren't kidding Mod 9 is horrible not the material just the amount. Great way to get introduced to FAR -_- . I'm still drudging through inventory but have a 3 hour session tonight so im hoping ill get through the rest of Inventory and start Fixed Assets. I'm really hoping I don't have any % completion questions when i take FAR.

AnonymousInactive@goingtobeCPA–Maybe we can come up with an easy way to remember % complete if we work together. What are you having trouble with? The caluclations? The JEs?
February 26, 2014 at 7:05 pm #560653
AnonymousInactive@notaquitter–There are a handful of us using the Wiley textbook. I also have the CPAExcel textbooks and they seemed to be laid out in a similar fashion as the Wiley textbook. Hard to go from Becker to either one of those I think.

holycow_75Member@GoingToBeCPA87…on the MCQ's, I kind of mix them up between the WTB and the questions in the book at the end of the chapter. When I finish reading & making notes on a module, I will do 40-50 of the book questions…maybe in two sittings. Then, I'll get on WTB a couple times over the next few days and do 30 question pop quizzes over just that section. Also during the course of the week, I'll do a couple 20 or 30 question pop quizzes over all the sections I've covered so far, and that gives me 150+ for the week. 40 out of the book + 60 on WTB for current module + 50 WTB for all modules covered so far = 150
Like this week, I'm doing two smaller modules (10 Inventory & 11 Fixed Assets). I'll probably do closer to 200 total questions this week, but maybe a few less in the book at the end of the module for each one. I think it's important to make sure and keep doing some comprehensive questions so you don't forget some of the details you've already learned. Its not an exact science, but it's worked for me so far.
