I just started studying FAR for the first time and already I feel like it is sucking the life out of me!!! I just finished the second lecture and started the multiple choice, which is really kicking my butt and I’m losing self-confidence. Any advice on how to study? I usually work through the problem and if it’s wrong figure out why and keep a notebook of “study tips” or little statements that I should remember (ie: Record loss when it happens, defer gains). Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Becker: lectures, multiple choice, simulations, final review and flashcards.

    Wiley: multiple choice CD

I just finished the last Becker lecture and will start reviewing everything hard-core until my exam. I will take tomorrow off though and try to enjoy Christmas with my kids. FAR is the GRINCH.

I did a little studying earlier and plan just a little more today, an hour or two tomorrow, the rest of the week, new years eve and new years day..

the sooner the better : )

I recommend leaving about 100 minutes at the end for the sims. Try and do that multiple choice questions in the 40-45 min per section. Also if you get to the first sim and are having trouble and spending too much time with it, it might be best to move on. I had to do this on the 1st sim, knowing that I have an entire 2nd sim to complete that might be easier. Once you get to the 2nd sim do the written communication, research, and go on to the rest then.

My resolution for 2010 is to pass the CPA test.. 🙂 Having a full time job, two kids – one of them a newborn, I am not sure how it will work out.. Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. It is encouraging to see you are not alone. English is my second language so the recomended number of hours to study for each subject has to be higher for me. I am thinking of starting with FAR. Need suggestions on the review materials to use.. Thank you..

to 2010CPA(and everyone!) Best wishes on your success in 2010 to PASS the CPA exam 🙂

I too join you on this adventure. I have taken Becker 3 times before (2004,2005 and 2007), have also tried MicroMash 2002 (I don't know if it exists anymore). I have resolved that this is not clicking for me, and have ordered Yaeger this time. I am hopeful with Yaeger as it is described as an “old school” style and good for those who have been out of school setting for a while. I've watched the sample videos… and I actually am paying attention and understand what they are teaching. I also called Yaeger because I had a small issue with my online order… when I called, I got PHIL Y. HIMSELF! VERRRY nice guy and very personable and very helpful!! I am looking forward to getting my books and software and eager to get this studying into motion. I have mapped out my FAR study schedule and have read many posts on another71.com site and FaceBook page to get MANY and VARIED tips on how to study, what to study, etc.

    AUD (46,52)

    BEC (40,52,61)

    FAR (39,56)

    REG (44,56)

I really look forward to the day I can post all passing scores 🙂

    Hi all,

I have question. I am studying for FAR right now. I bought the stuff from yaeger in oct, so it is the 2009 studying material. I want to write the exam in april (my last exam), but now I am a bit afraid that the studying will not be up to date.

Do I have to buy the new stuff to be save? Or is the studying material complete? What can I do to be save?

Thank you very much for your help.

Germanguy – The only new items I “think” would potentially appear on the exam are questions related to the new codification and SFAS 141(R). As far as I know, ICOFR is still up in the air so that won't be on the exam. You might want to double check other sources just in case though.
