I am taking FAR in 1 week (April 5th) and am freaking out at the moment. I got a 60% on the first becker practice exam and now taking Wiley Diagnostic tests. I cant seem to crack the 70% mark on my progress tests from becker. Pensions and Bonds are kicking my butt. Any advice?!

i would do them over and over again honestly. especially the areas you cant nail down. I failed FAR a few times before finally passing, and the difference was on the ones i Failed, I would shrug off the areas I didn't like or get as well and hope they weren't on my test – well they usually were….so the time i passed, i would rewatch lectures, do the practice problems over and over till I got it. I don't know how much help that is but, prepare as best you can! You got this!

@lizardh7 thank you, I appreciate that advice. I have been just doing hundreds of practice multiple choice questions these past few days and am getting ready to take my second practice exam tomorrow in hopes that my score has increased. Do you have any advice on how to go about getting pensions and bonds to finally stick?

With bonds, what helped me is writing out the entire bond amortization table. And then writing down the JEs that go with them. I learned bonds in Intermediate accounting and was taught that way, so no matter what the problem asked whether its interest expense, or the discount etc, I go to the amortization table.

    For J/E on bonds: (borrower)

In beginning , always CR bond payable. B/c you have liability to pay in xx yrs. DR cash, b/c you got cash!

Always DR Discount (i always remembered D and D) on B/P and CR Premium on B/P in beginning!

When you record Interest Expense. Just reverse previous J/E, meaning CR Discount OR DR premium. Like i said i like the amortization table and that sort of visual. Pensions suck too. I remember I utilized SIR-AGE from Becker, and memorizing the crap out of that. The JEs in pension I never seemed to understand as well. Luckily I didn't have JE sim problems for pension. I will let you know if i think of anything else.

If there are areas that you are weak or have big conceptual-level gaps, I recommend watching the videos, either on your software or one YouTube, Wiley has “Deep Dives” for trickier sections and they usually work out examples in those videos.

I take FAR next week, April 2, too. I getting around the same scores as you but the going consensus is to keep hammering out MCQs with a few TBSs until test day. I'm using Wiley test bank as well. If I run out of questions with them, I might sign up for Ninja monthly. Good Luck!!

Don't let the Becker mock exam scores destroy your confidence prior to taking your actual exam. Just learn from the incorrect questions, and use them as your reference to go back and figure out which areas you need to keep working.

I got a 80 on the first mock exam, then a 65 on the second one, but ended up with a 87 on the actual exam. Just keep pounding MCQs and work through several SIMs to improve your chances on accumulating as many points as possible on the exam.

Wow, 1 week left. Good luck to you. You are receiving some good study tips, take them in. I have a little time left but hammering out the mcq's seem to be the consensus.
