Long time lurker, now decided to make an account. I started studying for FAR probably a month ago. I felt like I don’t fully comprehend the material enough to actually pass. I’m scoring roughly in 50-60% on most of the material and still haven’t done a SIM.

My question is, with an AUD exam coming up April 18th. My NTS for FAR and AUD ends April 18th, so I can’t postpone FAR to study more. Do I just say “screw it” on FAR, and start studying hard now for AUD? I’ve taken every exam once (except FAR) and failed (mid 60s- low 70s).

What would you guys do? I don’t want to waste the next few days I could be studying for AUD, is really my main concern.

Take FAR. Then push through to AUD. Don't slack. You still have plenty of time to pass both IMO.

Get off this website and study and stop concerning yourself with trivial matters.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

I don't know if I have enough time to complete all of Wiley's test bank questions now until Thursday night. What should I do?

Puzzle, I'm on the same boat here. I've been studying 13-14 hours a day since last Wednesday, and I'm not done with the lectures of Audit of Beckers. But I know I will be done by the Monday, and I will have extra time for exam practices on Tuesday before my exam on Wednesday.

I know it sounds really bad for people on this forum (everybody seems to be on top of their stuff all the time), but I've always studied like that, even when I was in University. I would study like nuts and a half right before the exams. I was not the best student, but I still did better than the average and have the GPA to be admitted in a MAcc or a MTax.

So don't get discouraged. 🙂 The worst that can happen is that you fail, and that you have experience on this exam. 🙂

    Good luck!

    BEC: 80
    REG: 75
    AUD: 57, 80
    FAR: 10/5/2013

@Puzzler I'm taking FAR on Saturday and I'm only scoring 40-50%, so you're actually doing better than I am. Hang in there.

Hmm, if I was you.I would focus all my attention on the “big” areas for both exams and hope that your test covers them. For example, for FAR I would concentrate all of my effort on pensions, leases, government/nfp accounting, and inventory valuation. Know those areas cold and you stand a chance at passing I would think.

For AUD, I would concentrate all my energy on the standard auditor's report and the various modifications depending on the situation. Understand detection risk/inherent risk/control risk. And the COVER U mnemonic provided by Becker (if you have Becker) It's just an easy way to understand the assertions. That's one of the few I actually like.

Again, since you so short on time, hit the biggest areas and hope for the best. Since you have never done a SIM, I would do a few, lol. They usually hit a lot of areas all at once. But if all else, you have a little more experience with the exam after all is said and done.

Are you attempting to get all four sections done this window? If so, I understand the rush but otherwise, you might benefit from pushing back both FAR and AUD. I slacked off for a few days during my preparation for FAR and ended up pushing my exam back 6 days (from the 17th of January to the 23rd), and I think the extra few days really benefited me. My score was high enough that I most likely had the knowledge/ability to pass even if I had not moved the date, but I used the extra time to become more confident with the material.

With that said, I'll repeat what I've read over and over on these forums and that is you will never feel completely ready for some particular topics that you will encounter on any part of the exam…

Anyway, the bottom line is this… if you're not trying to fit everything in during one testing window, are you comfortable with the possibility of not being well enough prepared, failing, and then having to wait until July before you try again?

I'm certainly not attempting to discourage you but just wanted to throw another perspective out there…

I think you are postured to fail both of them. Why not take just one at the end of testing window? I was scheduled for audit last November but was taking three classes and working. It never crossed my mind to take it.

    FAR Aug 12 84
    Aud Feb 13 99
    BEC Apr 13 86
    Reg May 13 87 Done!!!

I think the OP said that his/her NTS for both FAR and AUD expire on 4/18.

You say you've been studying FAR for a month already. Seems a shame to throw that away. Honestly I'd push FAR out to 4/18, lose the NTS for AUD which gives you 6+ weeks total studying for FAR.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
