kb24ParticipantEveryone's different, but I'd highly recommend buying the Wiley text if you can manage another $31 (price at Amazon and Barnes and Noble). IMO, the Ninja notes and flashcards are great for reviewing concepts you've already studied, but they're too general when first going thru the material. The Wiley test bank is great for FAR. It has lots of problems, and you can learn a lot by reading the answers (both right and wrong). It also gets you used to the format you'll see on the exam and help you with your speed which is absolutely essential with FAR. However, FAR covers a huge amount of material, and a text or lectures can help you grasp the broader structure in the best sequence. The Wiley text can be somewhat turgid, but it's the cheapest option. You could manage without it if you had to, but I'd strongly recommend it if you can possibly afford it.

AnonymousInactiveHi, I am studying for FAR using Wiley's 2011 CPA review book but was wonderinf if it's okay to use this version if I am going to take the exam sometime in January 2012 or February 2012…
Also… I am studying for the very first topic in the book forever now… any suggestion or tips on how you study for the test?

undeniabletwins2ParticipantThank you very much for your feedback i really appreciate it. I was thinking of buying the Bisk text because that is the text i used for Audit, still checking my options. Is the wiley text sold in Barnes and Noble? in connecticut? Or do i have to purchase it online?

kb24ParticipantI'm not familiar with Bisk, but it may be a good choice for you if you liked it for AUD. You can check with your local Barnes and Noble, but I think you'll probably have to order Wiley online. If you're a member, you do get fairly quick free shipping.

Wiley crams a lot of material into that first topic, especially if you haven't been exposed to financial for a while. Since it covers the entire financial statement, there are problems that apply to topics that are covered in more detail later. I'd recommend that you skim the rest and do a few problems, then move on. You can come back to it at a later time during your studies or during your final review. I was in the same situation you are, but things improved after I decided to go to the next module and come back later. As I read those later sections the points that I'd struggled with made much more sense.
Good luck.

Barnes and Noble ships pretty quickly if you're a member. I've always had good luck with them.

Marivy22Participant@mlb749 – For this part I can only do 25-35 mcq's per hour, but I am half way through Becker review, and still trying to understand the concepts while completing the mcq's. I guess that if you are good with the material it will take you less time. My experience with AUD was completely different. FAR is a different monster. Good Luck!!!
To NINJA CPA Review users….. the re-write of the notes is based on the information on the study guide? I am having a hard time understanding the concepts with Becker. I have now completed F5, but I feel that I do not have an understading of the material at all, and this test does not seem to be a “memorizing”. So, I decided to buy the study guide, but was wondering if I need something else.

AnonymousInactiveHey Guys,
I was just wondering, how much relevant and useful it is to study AICPA released questions. I mean how close are they to the real exam. I was just going through the ones released for FAR for 2011 and found them somewhat easy.
September 14, 2011 at 12:51 pm #375307
pshustlerParticipantarorav9 – that description you typed for FAR is pretty much dead on.
Also, I found Wiley online test bank to be more useful than Becker software. Becker text is good but the questions ask a lot of basic stuff that you won't see on the exam IMO. I used both though for AUD and REG and had a good experience with both of those. I'll let you know how it worked for FAR next week. Walked out feeling pretty crappy
