@Joe36y–It depends on how comfortable you are with financial accounting and how much time you have during the week.

Can someone please paste the link for AICPA July 1st changes and research sims link from aicpa website?

I'm starting F4 (Becker) tonight. The more and more I study, the less and less I get uncomfortable with this whole thing. Plus, Ramadan is starting in August, so no food or drink until sunset. And in Dallas, in summer, the sun doesnt set until almost 9pm. Its going to be so hard. Anyways, thanks so much for taking your time to post. Its helping me a lot and scaring me a lot. The moment I feel I know what I'm doing, and I get on this website, I feel stupid for some reason. I always find something that I didn't know. Like research sims, free access to publications, JEs for all those topics etc etc. Thanks all!

OMG I'm scared of FAR. I haven't look at this since 2009. If I don't pass it on 8/29 I lose BEC!! I have a long road ahead of me!!

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

    Hello All,

I became a member of the site a little while ago, but this is my first time posting. I'm very grateful for the post people have shared and I am rooting for each one of you as you take your exams. I wish I had read some of the posts sooner, I would have been better prepared for my FAR exam which I took today (I am using Becker, MC was alright but the Sims are what got me for sure!). Sure enough the advice given by those on here is very true and should be considered when preparing for an exam, so thank you all.

As a contribution I would like to share what I have recently learned about scoring from the AICPA so I am pasting it below:

We will answer your questions in the order that you presented them.

    1. Unless specifically indicated, it does not matter what order your responses are entered as long as you have the proper corresponding debits and credits with each entry and/or they are placed in the correct cell range.

2.In the tabs that contain more cells, or boxes, than are required to respond to the questions, you should leave the unused cells blank unless the directions specifically tell you otherwise.

    3. In the Research tab, all the boxes have to be correctly entered in order to receive credit for that task.

    4. Scores on the multiple-choice and simulation portions of the exam are calculated using formulas that take into account not only whether the question was answered correctly or incorrectly, but also statistical characteristics of the questions themselves. There are three statistics used to describe the questions: Difficulty – whether the question is easier or harder for candidates, Discrimination – how well the question differentiates between more able and less able candidates, and Guessing – the likelihood of candidates answering the question correctly just by guessing.

    5. The entire CPA exam is graded by computer. Each response is calculated in the scoring process.

We hope we have answered all your scoring concerns. The best advice we can give you is to study for the exam and answer all the questions to the best of your ability.

    Sincerely,

    Examinations Team

Hints on Far? Know your journal entries and really have a good understanding of how transactions are recorded and what accounts are affect. Also remember that Government and NFP is 16-24% of the exam, so make sure you know this section! In the FAR review courses only a chapter or two is dedicated to this section, but it really is significant part of the exam.

I take FAR tomorrow. I don't think im ready but I guess we will see!! I've studied for 5 straight weeks but every time I do a practice Becker testlet I only score 65% or so… That is about on par with how I was for BEC though and ended up with an 83 on that one. Good luck everybody! Im so nervous!!

What is the SIMS format like on the exam? Can someone go into a little more detail. I've never taken an exam before and the SIMS have me worried b/c of what everyone here says about them LOL

    @Redrage

There are different formats depending on the type of question. You can go to the AICPA website for some sample MCQ and SIMS for each exam. Also, the Wiley test bank has some good sample SIMS. The Wiley SIMS are good for content, but be aware that there is a problem with the way they are scored. If your answer doesn't exactly match in format or order, it's shown as an error. I think that Gleim has a simulation test bank, but I'm not sure and I don't know anything about how closely they mimic the exam.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

Ok, I've been using the Wiley SIMS, and I can agree about the errors it gives you for not having the answer in the exact format.

In your opinion you agree that the Wiley SIMS closely mimic what's on the real exam?

    thanks!

I'll also check out the MCQs and SIMS on the AICPA website. I was planning to do a practice exam on there anyway.

    Thanks for the info.

@Redrage-I took FAR last window, and I don't think the wiley SIMS closely mimic the exam. For me, it was just important to practice the Wiley sims and get used to the idea that they can be in a variety of formats, and cover any topic in FAR. Expect the unexpected and you wont be caught off gaurd 🙂

Also, the sims are FAR are not as scary as the REG sims. I thought the FAR sims were tough but fair.

CalCPA is right that you need to expect the unexpected. I had a couple similar in content to ones in Wiley and the rest were quite different. However, I didn't have any that were is a significantly different format than those in Wiley. He's also right that they are tough but fair, unlike REG. If you have done a good job preparing for the exam, you should be able to do the SIMS. The only one I struggled with was from an area where I was weaker than I'd thought. Any problems I had were my own fault for not working on that topic more.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

My test is Sunday! ugh…..I'm getting nervous!!

I also feel bad because my nephew is having a birthday party at a waterpark on SATURDAY and keeps asking if I'm going. What do yall do the day before a test? A part of me wants to stay home and review and do MCQs etc all day Saturday and a part of me just wants to go to the dang waterpark, relax, and just read some notes. I don't like the water so I'd probably just sit and review.
