Also has anyone done the Becker live classes or Yaegar? What time are they usually at, can you access them at anytime, are they helpful? Thanks

I'm taking FAR in a week, and what I have been doing to help me remember how to work some problems is to talk aloud to myself (and whisper really quietly when actually in the exam), and explain the steps as I go. My roommates look at me like I'm a weirdo, but being a weirdo has gotten me passing grades on the first go-round on the other 3 so far (OK, I took AUD twice, but the first time was this whole crazy thing. won't get into it).

So when you are calculating the bond premium amortization in year 3, say to yourself, “I know that the coupon payment is X and the beginning balance in the premium account is Y @…”

Talk to yourself, love your voice and when you look at the question during the exam, you will hear yourself in your head. GOOD LUCK!

I am taking FAR in early May and preparing with Becker last years Becker Passmaster (e.g no IFRS). For those with updated Becker Passmaster, is it worth it to upgrade passmaster? Have they included a lot of new questions around new subject areas to justify expense? I have the updated textbooks but not passmaster. Thanks.

    FAR – may 2011

    AUD – 99

    REG – 90

    BEC – 80

@richard_ca, I'm currently using the 2011 Passmaster software and I don't think there are very many IFRS questions on the new version. I think you will be fine with the Appendix at the end of each chapter showing the differences.

@CPAGreen – I appreciate that information. I was not looking forward to sending more money to Becker. I will focus on the IFRS vs GAAP charts in the appendix as a study guide.

I am curious with those that are passing FAR – how many time did you go through the MCQ and when were you satisfied you were good? Similiar to REG, I am shooting for 5 times per Becker section and 90%.

    FAR – may 2011

    AUD – 99

    REG – 90

    BEC – 80

    I need some help, please.

I used Becker for my two failing scores (see below) and am trying to get a new payment coupon/NTS/seat before the end of May. Seats are filling fast, right now the lastest avail is 5/26. I retake BEC on 4/15 so I have from 4/16 to whenever I can get a seat to take and pass FAR. I work full time.

Given that I may have only 5 weeks to restudy I wondered what the best approach might be. I have Yaeger Homestudy and Becker still and I also have CPAexcel. I don't know if I can get through any of them in the time frame and have a shot in hell of passing. I'd move BEC up but I have to pass it also or I lose my AUD credit at the end of May.

    @dhuffman

This past November the prometrics centers opened up additional time slots at night for the last few weeks of the month. They did that at the beginning of November. I'm not sure if that was because of the amount of people trying to take it before all the changes or if that is a regular thing at the end of every testing window. Time slots are closing up around me as well and the lastest date I was going to be able to get for May was the 18th, but I kept checking back and was able to get the 26th. I think when a time slot is canceled it opens up right away for someone else to take. So I would book May 26th and then just keep checking back for a later time slot. If you make the changes more than 30 days out it's free.

I've also found that getting up a few hours earlier and studying before work is helpful. Then I study a few hours after work and go to bed earlier than I use to. I'm able to get more study time in that way. It was a little rough the first few days, but now I'm use to it.

One day is today! I'm DOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

@One Day – that's the problem…I can't even schedule yet…no payment coupon, no NTS. I'm watching days dwindle away and I can't even schedule.

@dhuff u can do it. 5 weeks is enough to go thru the yaeger course and review. I did it from “scratch” from Jan 1 to Feb 27, working full time. I actually went thru the entire course twice in 8 weeks…and the trouble areas I went thru 3-4x .I took my last accounting college course more than 10 years ago so all this stuff was almost new. My really intense review lasted only 4 weeks Feb 1-27…I took it easy in Jan…My best advice to you is watch the dvds at 1.4x speed do the qs right after at least one module per day.. do 3 or more on weekends. try to leave 10 days or so for really intense review. Redo all the mcqs, sims and going over every problem in the hand out (great sim practice). the final week before exam I took 1/2 days off from work and put in about 10 hrs of study per day, this helped so much, everyday felt like a weekend.

Herbie – I am dying over your mnemonics. I also use PEE for the changes, but am not creative enough for the rest…

One of the things that always drove me crazy about Becker (have switched to Wiley/Yaeger) was that their ‘hints' were so useless. “Just remember SIRAGE, and you're good to go!” Um, OK, but sirage is not a thing. How am I supposed to remember what any of the letters stand for, let alone what the topic is?

Please share more if you get a chance!

REG: 76 (would have lost credit 5/31)
    AUD: 71, 78
    BEC: 74, 81
    FAR: 74, 61, 66, 69, 75 DONE

    kamandor,

Hang in there buddy. I feel your pain since I got a 74 too on my BEC score. You mentioned switching to yeager from becker. If you can afford another program, the instructor (Cindy) is excellent. Another suggestion is to compliment your becker program with wiley test bank questions or perhaps Ninja's notes (Have not used personally but folks are saying tood things about).

    FAR: 65 5/11 Retake

    AUD: 4/11 Pending

    REG: 77

    BEC: 74

How heavily are the IFRS being tested?

    Good luck to everyone!

Last minute cramming for FAR happening tomorrow. Should I just stick with cranking out MCQs or keep reading text, doing flashcards, etc.?

I do know I need to really hammer out leases and bonds, so I plan to spend a few hours on that, but I have the entire day off (!!), so I want to make the best use of my time!

I am so stressed about FAR right now. Took the Becker final exam and scored 74….I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. I am taking far on 4/9/11. Any advice?

    FAR 4/9/2011: 88 (Becker)
    AUD 5/16/2011: 88 (Becker)
    REG 7/1/2011: 82 (Becker)
BEC 8/3/2011: 91 (Becker and Ninja)

kperrucci – Don't put too much stock in those final exam scores. They're simply based on a percentage, whereas the actual exam is not.

    BEC 52, 61, 74, 77
    AUD 80
    REG 75
    FAR 50, 60, 70, 74, 83...DONE!!
