Back from BEC exam from hell — Pretty devastated. - Page 4

I’m usually not one to complain but Super Rant ahead:

I just finished BEC about 2 hours ago. For studying I used Becker and put in close to 90 hours in 4 weeks. I did every chapter 3, yes 3x each. Progress tests, Both final exams, did flash cards, rewrote notes etc. I knew the Becker book like the back of my hand you could ask what page XXX was on and I could tell you. Used the same approach to study and pass FAR.

So I am feeling pretty confident heading into the exam and wasn’t nervous at all. I get to the first McQ testlet and legitimately half of the multiple choice were topics I NEVER saw in becker. You ever read a multiple choice question and then not even know what 3/4 of the answers even mean, let alone the correct answer? That was half of this testlet. So after mostly guessing on half the questions I moved onto the next one expecting a very easy one since I probably bombed this.

Get to the next one and it is INSANELY hard. It was more of the same – questions I did not have a clue how to calculate or the answers were random things I’ve never heard of. I definitely bombed this testlet. At this point I was unbelievably frustrated I almost just walked out of the exam room.

I calmed myself down and just went onto the next one. This was a testlet that had actual BEC stuff I learned which I knew so it was easy. The writing portion was straightforward.

I just dont understand what happened. It was almost as if I signed up for the wrong exam. If I had my becker book in front of me I could not have answered about 10+ questions simply by the fact they weren’t in the study material. There were whole chapters from Becker that I did not see one question on.

Has this happened to anyone? I am not trying to exaggerate either. I would accept it if I half as*ed studied and couldnt figure out the answer. This was not the case, I studied for X and they tested me on Y. It would be an absolute miracle if I passed this exam. The worst part is I don’t even know how to study for the next time.

@poike15 , supposedly…. Figured I fit nicely in the 1-20 day zone by sitting on the 19th. However, no scores for anyone have come out yet, and, if I am close to a 75, sometimes there is more time involve due to manual review??

    fingers are crossed!

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

@nbad311 Oh, I did not know they manually review your test if you are close to a 75. Is this only in BEC or on all four sections?

Thank you all I appreciate it. I am still in shock I passed.

@audiox haha I want to take AUD before 5/31 but I am not sure I'll have time. Picked up 2 part time jobs and grad school is killing me.

I just found out today after finished retaking my REG (felt good on MC, but sims… I don't even know where on Earth do they pull those sims out of?)…I got a very similar results as the SeePeeAyy and a few others in this thread! I'm really glad I barely skidded by with a 77 woohoo!

    REG - 72, 72, 81
    BEC - 77
    FAR - 70, 81
    AUD - 74 "so that's what it feels like." Round 2: 79

Passing the exam is not impossible task. GIVING UP is the only way YOU can make it impossible!

Sounds like I had the EXACT SAME TEST (and experience) as you did SeePeeAye but I failed with a 59 just 2 weeks ago… am retesting next window….

I am encouraged by all these posts… so THANKS EVERYONE~

    BEC - 2/13/13 (59) retake 5/15/13
    AUD -
    REG -
    FAR -

I walked out of FAR feeling slightly bewildered, but I am quite strong in all of those topics so I held the faith. I ended up getting a 97.

I walked out of BEC an hour ago and I am stunned. I know I am not as strong in these topics so I'm not sure if I could best the exam on the questions I did not immediately know. It's likely I passed, but I cannot help but imagine the amount of people that would have failed that test that did not have the amount of time I had to prepare. Seriously, the test barely tested my intelligence and targeted odd minutia in random topics. There were a bunch of standard calculations and theoretical questions, but the majority was the opposite. A few of the answers even seemed like they were just established opinions. Rough.

I get it though. These things are supposed to be hard. I cannot change that, but I can tell you this:

Do not underestimate this thing. There is no pattern. There are no universal tips.

If someone tells you what the test is composed of DO NOT LISTEN.

If your review book specifically tells you that you will not see multiple choice questions on this topic DO NOT LISTEN.

If your review book specifically tells you that it will cover all the material DO NOT LISTEN.

You have to know it all, and then you just have to rest your faith in the random scoring algorithm.
