I’m usually not one to complain but Super Rant ahead:

I just finished BEC about 2 hours ago. For studying I used Becker and put in close to 90 hours in 4 weeks. I did every chapter 3, yes 3x each. Progress tests, Both final exams, did flash cards, rewrote notes etc. I knew the Becker book like the back of my hand you could ask what page XXX was on and I could tell you. Used the same approach to study and pass FAR.

So I am feeling pretty confident heading into the exam and wasn’t nervous at all. I get to the first McQ testlet and legitimately half of the multiple choice were topics I NEVER saw in becker. You ever read a multiple choice question and then not even know what 3/4 of the answers even mean, let alone the correct answer? That was half of this testlet. So after mostly guessing on half the questions I moved onto the next one expecting a very easy one since I probably bombed this.

Get to the next one and it is INSANELY hard. It was more of the same – questions I did not have a clue how to calculate or the answers were random things I’ve never heard of. I definitely bombed this testlet. At this point I was unbelievably frustrated I almost just walked out of the exam room.

I calmed myself down and just went onto the next one. This was a testlet that had actual BEC stuff I learned which I knew so it was easy. The writing portion was straightforward.

I just dont understand what happened. It was almost as if I signed up for the wrong exam. If I had my becker book in front of me I could not have answered about 10+ questions simply by the fact they weren’t in the study material. There were whole chapters from Becker that I did not see one question on.

Has this happened to anyone? I am not trying to exaggerate either. I would accept it if I half as*ed studied and couldnt figure out the answer. This was not the case, I studied for X and they tested me on Y. It would be an absolute miracle if I passed this exam. The worst part is I don’t even know how to study for the next time.

Ugggh this is depressing! As a guy who also with a Finance/Econ undergrad degree, I thought this would by far be the easiest exam for me. No free lunches indeed…..Best of luck TDKR, hope you passed!

I definitely feel your pain…took the BEC 1/8 and had the same experience. My only consultation is that I felt worse when I took REG, but passed. I'm praying for the same surprise. I have noticed that the pass rates are much lower in the 1st & 2nd quarters…stressing me more…does anyone know why those quarters are typically lower? I'm using Becker, but second quessing whether I should switch to another product or supplement with something else…any advice? Good Luck!!!

Your BEC experience sounds like a more stressful version of my FAR experience- lots of questions out of left field. While I think that the number of pre-test (i.e. non-scored) questions is probably the same no matter what, I have to wonder if the types of questions they choose for pre-test questions change. What I mean is that in Q3, you might get pre-test questions that look like “normal” Becker questions. But in Q1, the examiners are looking to roll out more questions in specific new areas, and so they concentrate their pre-test questions on certain kinds of questions to try and pick the “best” ones of that area so they can test it.

It's the only way (other than just bad luck) that I could explain how the actual exam questions could deviate widely from the CSOs. It also raises our hopes for passing 🙂 It's just a speculative theory- anyone have any experience that would help test it?

I have been avoiding this forum and just trying to forget about the whole exam. With score releases about a week away I am starting to get really anxious and depressed.

@SeePeeAyy I'm waiting to see what your score will be, I was feeling pretty good about retaking my BEC for the 4th time next week, but after reading your comments and posts I have been really nervous.

I need an advice from those who took the exam, I have a problem in the time management specially when it comes to the cost accounting, how to manage the time in the exam so that I do well in the cost accounting questions and finish all the exam within time.

If I am short of time and I see a question that is long, should I give it a try or pass it ?! I am afraid I lose the remaining.

    Please advice.

Since my retake on the 19th I've had 4 dreams in which I got my score. 3 out of 4 I passed (hoping something's trying to tell me I got a hearty 75!) The fail, which was the dream I was having before I woke up this morning, I got a 74. Anxious much?

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

Welp..I took the test yesterday (Sunday). I am not sure how I did. I really can't get a gauge on it.

The test was straight forward on topics that I expected to see. I used 2013 Becker BEC materials only.

The first testlet was medium difficultly with a greater percentage being conceptual questions.

The second testlet was definitely harder with more of a focus on computational questions.

The third testlet – I felt was harder than the second, but it didn't have many computational questions at all. The conceptual questions were tricky. I can't tell if the exam thought I did good or bad on the second testlet since there were very few hard computational questions.

Please let me know what you guys think!!

@ poike15, based on your experience, does Becker 2013 provide a good sense of what to expect on the test? Does it prepare you well in terms of Information Technology?

    Thanks for your input. =)

I thought Becker 2013 did a great job in preparing me for BEC. The IT section is very adequate for what was tested.
