Took FAR today. I'm sure I did well on MC but “SIMs” were much more difficult than I expected. Granted, I didn't spend much time on those since most of the ones I saw on Becker review seemed like I would be able to work them even without practice. If I don't pass, then I know I'll definitely need to make sure to go back and do the skills practice and SIMs. There are some skills practice that, had I actually worked out before hand, would have helped me greatly.

@Jess DRs are Document Reviews (Document Review Simulations)

@jess yup! What @jastansel said! DRS are sims when they give you memos, emails, or other documents to review for information.

Took FAR on Monday. Mc were straightforward and not difficult, which is applicable to all other exams in a new format as well. SIMS are very time-consuming. I finished mc in 1.5 hr, and 2.5 hr wasn't even enough to finish the sims (i finished with 20 seconds left, but not as good as I could if i had more time). My advice is time management (watch the clock during the exam) and practicing SIMS before the exam. I had one DRS, one research and everything else was “fill the blank” with complex and confusing calculations derived from weird source documents.

Hello. I am planning on taking my exam 2/24/18, and using Roger CPA review for all 4 sections.

    Hey Everyone!

I'm taking FAR at the end of this month and was wondering if anyone who has taken the new exam (Q1 2018) has any advice on how to finish out the last 1.5-2 weeks of review for this BEAST. Any input is greatly appreciated!

For the last 2 weeks, I would suggest do comprehensive exam and make sure to treat it as if you were taking the actual exam. I recently took FAR on 1/6/18. It was indeed heavily tested on Govt/NFP I saw like 10 questions about them mixed on MCQ. I would suggest concentrate on them. I have been studying using Roger as well.

Hi, I am new to this forum but I love to read everything here. I am currently studying for FAR after a long long time out of school. My question for FAR: when it comes to comprehensive income and other comprehensive income, do companies really put in on the balance sheet? Or this is just for textbook learning? I have not seen much of this category on the balance sheet yet. Maybe it's for big companies? Any help would be appreciate.

    Thanks,

@Oldie-what I learned so far-who cares what people really do in real life, the key is to know what you need to know for the test! 🙂 LOL

    Howdy everyone:

I'm taking FAR in late February, been studying for 3 days so far. Using Wiley CPAExcel as my review. I've studied about 4-5 hours a day so far, and I'm already starting to feel sort of exhausted, and it's only been a few days! This is going to be a very long journey…

    Hiya all,

I'm scheduled to take FAR and AUD on 3/2 and 4/27, respectively. It's only been 4 days since I started studying for FAR using Becker. According to my Becker study plan, I need to complete 2 chapters each week to be on the right track, and I have been on the right track so far.

I've been using the lectures, working on practice skills and then completing MCQs within each module of a chapter. I'm trying to pass it on the first attempt as well as for the rest of the exam before I start with my firm in fall so I have plenty of time, but who knows!

Been studying for about 3 weeks now and just hit my first mammoth bump in the road: Notes Receivable… Any suggestions on what to know about them. I get the basic ones where you don't discount the Note at the beginning, but after that I am struggling when the stated and market rates differ.

The first couple weeks of material about the frameworks are mentally exhausting. But, it is important and it gets reinforced throughout the rest of the study materials.

    Hi everyone,

I am preparing to re-take FAR March 5. I first took FAR in December and received a 71. While I was disappointed with this result, I realized that I am responsible for the outcome.

In retrospect, I could have used a more efficient study plan. In my first crack at any section of the Exam, I fell into the trap of spending too much time mastering the concepts, such that, by the time I reached the end of the material, I had forgotten a significant portion of the first topics I reviewed. This time, I plan to review the book and retake notes on each topic without working problems. For sections with changes for 2018, I will read line-by-line, watch the video lecture, and take notes.

Perhaps the main reason I came up short is time management. Since I was inefficient with my time, I did not have enough time to spend on topics towards the end of my review course, namely NFP and governmental accounting. These two topics alone may have made the difference between pass and fail on my last attempt, but I know there are other areas of weakness too. This time, I'm going to put my study plan on Google Calendar and hold myself to it. I'm aiming to study 20-25 hours/week.

Good luck to you in your studies!

    – Chris
