Murphy’s Law sure did apply this morning to me.

I got to the exam center & they were running behind so we weren’t allowed in until after 7:30am, mind you my exam was scheduled for 8:00am.

I was the first one to sign in and when I went to get finger printed…the machine wasn’t working properly, she saw my name in the roster but couldn’t find my paperwork. Then when they had to reprint EVERYTHING again they signed me in and when I went to my computer, it didn’t work. They kept trying but to no avail. They had to call the global communications center to sort this out.

Mind you again, my exam was supposed to start at 8am. They FINALLY get it up and running…could you imagine being me sitting there through all this going is this real? Am I really going to take this exam or what?

Well, I did take it and it was just as awful as I had imagined. I didn’t think I did awful on the MCQ but I did think by testlet 3 they were a lot harder as there were more I had to go back to and some I had to guess on.

As for the SIMS? Well that sealed my fate, they were AWFUL! I mean when I saw I just had to start guessing I mean I had to start just making things up. I sat there with 25 minutes left feeling so defeated because I knew there was nothing more I could do to make this better. I gave 150% but I am most certain I did not pass thanks to the simulations. I didn’t leave any completely blank, but I sure did make things up and guess.

I am sad and depressed but I refuse to think about it anymore until scores come out because its over with and it was my first exam and I really did try my best. I am so burnt out and exhausted I don’t know how I will start AUD on Thursday.

    Happy friggen Monday 🙁

The responses to this have been so uplifting I can't thank you all enough!

It has surely put my mind at ease as I wait patiently for September 10th to roll around and especially as I start to study now for Audit.

Pass/Fail again, I gave it 150% and I can't be upset about that, though I am still praying I won't have to sit for this again.

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone else who took FAR with me this week…don't forget we are stronger for sitting and we CAN do this!

I passed FAR the first time but lost credit for it earlier this year. Took it for a second and third time and got the same grade each time…60! 🙁

I had a lot of personal stuff going on (health, work, etc.) and did not devote as much time to studying as I should have. However, on the third attempt I felt better than the second, and was shocked that I got the same score (didn't expect a 75 but better than a 60).

So, this time around I am going to get the WTB and the NINJA Notes and study as if it was the first time I saw the material. I just scheduled my retake for late October as well as a fifth battle with AUD in late November.

Good luck and hopefully we all will pass FAR (and any other sections we are studying for) in the next window!!!

Would you guys say that the questions are (extremely) tricky? Or that you need to know the J/Es inside and out?

Also, do the SIMS go into minute detail or do they ask questions at a high level?

I know FAR covers a lot of concepts and I mostly know a lot of things at the high level but I wouldn't be able to answer all the conceptual questions if they go into detail.

    BEC (July 2013)
    FAR (OCT 2013)
    REG (NOV 2013)
    AUD (JAN 2014)

The CPA Exam is an opponent that not even the Fellowship of the Ring would want to come across.

    I have a long...long...journey ahead of me.

@ZSR – I have taken FAR four (starting to lose count) times now and each time has been extremely different. This time it was the detailed SIMS that killed me, but I have definitely had easier (choose the account) type Sims. My advice:

Touch on everything. I've taken the exam and gotten demolished on small topics when I knew Pensions, Leases, Govt, NFP inside and out.

Bonds. I hate them too, but we MUST know the basics for them.

Essentially, I think the best guide is if you are doing well on average on MCQ, you will do well on the test.
