Hey all, trying to keep the flame alive here. Has anyone had a really bad FAR experience (heavy computational all the way, tricky, etc) and left with a total fail feeling yet found out they passed?

BEC was the only exam I walked out of confidently!

AUD was the exam I was most sure I had failed, I even purchased the Ninja notecards on Wednesday because I felt so certain I was going to fail and didn't want to miss out on the sale.

REG I started restudying the day after I got home from the exam.

FAR I was pretty sure I had failed also, although I didn't start restudying since I had already scheduled AUD, I cried probably 2 or 3 times before I received my score because I was so sure I failed.

I know my friends were very sick of hearing me say that I thought I failed only to end up passing each one, but it's so hard to gauge on these exams. If they sent me a letter tomorrow saying that they had mixed up my scores and I had actually failed all of those I wouldn't be all that surprised (I've had that dream many times!)

I walked out of FAR a week ago all but certain there would be a retake due to the severity of the really brutal simulations. My only confidence was that I felt I noticed my testlets did get harder and the last time I felt the way I did was last January when I got my REG score. Was very happy and relieved to see the pass this morning and that my 3.5 year off and on, disciplined and undisciplined CPA exam experience is at an end. Though I didn't use it for the other exams, the 10 point combo did just that for me, bumped my 70 from last November to the 81.

I certaintly thought I failed prior to score release when I reflected on my exam experience – mostly because of how brutal the sims were. I know I crushed the first m/c testlet, received a harder second testlet which I struggled with, and a third testlet that was a bit harder than the first, but easier than the second. I guessed completely on two of my sims. The only thing I know I got right for sure was my research question. I expected a score around 68-73, but was ecstatic to receive my beautiful 77 as I screamed and danced around the house.

You never really can tell who you did on FAR. Personally, I thought I absolutely bombed the exam. I got one sim that was a joke, but the rest were all material I had seen in my reviews, but they included details to trip you up. I did not feel very confident about the sims. The longer I waited for my score the more I realized I got that question wrong.

You never know how you did until you receive your score. I ended up with an 85 and stronger in everything except sims which I got comparable. It goes to show that just because you think you bombed FAR doesn't necessarily mean you did. One of my friends thought he failed, and he ended up with a 90 and stronger in every category. You honestly can never tell.

Yep – but I dunno I felt my MCq's were so so and SIM's were not bad.

So it worries me that my tests doing seem to get harder like everyone else felt theirs did

Brainfarts, I got a combination of hard long questions with easy 2 sentence questions on my last two teslets,so is hard to tell if you have a hard testlet or an easy one. The first time I took FAR, and got a 67, the first testlet was a combination of easy and hard questions, but testlets 2 and 3 had just too many two sentence questions. The last testlet was so easy that I thought they were going to ask me for my name on question 28, my last name on question 29 and my date of birth on question 30. I guess that is the reason why I failed back in q-1.

I have no clue how a lot of you can remember how many questions you flagged and the difficulty of each testlet. I came out of FAR “cautiously optimistic”, which in the last week has turned to “pretty sure I passed”. My wife has assumed I passed based on my behavior. Even my kids are rooting for good news on 6/6.

I believe the people who constantly think they failed each exam, then have all of their exam scores > 85 lack self-confidence and self-awareness. I don't want to be judgmental, but I don't know how so many people can be 10%-20% off on their grades. Same goes for the people who think they passed then score sub 60, but I feel for them and they were just trying to see the glass half full.

I knew when I failed AUD that it was close and the SIMS killed me. When I passed, I thought I did enough to pass and the SIMS helped me. My BEC and REG scores were as expected. So now I wait!

    i had the opposite

the 2nd time taking FAR i thought i was breezing through the mcq and did a little better on sims than the first time taking it. since i barely failed first time with a 72, i thought i def passed since i did alot better on mcq but ended up getting a point lower. turns out i was stronger in mcq but still weaker in sims, ugh

^^. If you got 72 in your first attempt what did you get in your second attempt. Was it 71.

    Oh that hurts!!!

I thought I might have failed FAR due to my third testlet being the easiest 30 questions I have encountered through my two tests taken and Becker material. I was also worried about the sims, but it seems like no one really feels great about the FAR sims. Test difficulty shouldn't bum you out. If your questions get easier, just relax and get them all right!

I'll join this club. FAR was my very first exam, and I let my nerves get the best of me. I prepped four months, and after reading about people's exam experience, I expected the worst and rushed through the questions. My testlets didn't get harder, and my expectations of the sims were so horrible, I was in shock that they were reasonable. I walked out knowing for sure that I failed and was completely caught off guard when I saw my passing score.

Yep, I've been shocked by both of my passes. I studied for FAR for four months and felt horrible while in the test. I let myself take a restroom break this time and I think it actually helped reset my brain a little. I flagged at least 10 questions in every testlet and just had to guess on more than a few, but I knew the second one got harder than the first. 2 SIMS were completely awful as most mentioned in Q2. On my drive home I felt oddly hyper. Those four months were the worst in my study experience, personally and professionally, and I'm not sure I could be persuaded monetarily to relive them by choice. After I took it, it was like the biggest weight was off my shoulders and I could actually breathe again for a while.

The morning of 5/22 I was rear ended and while waiting for my insurance claim sitting in my driveway, I checked my score and had a total and complete meltdown.

I hope I can write my experience on this thread by sept 8 being very surprised that I pass FAR.I just have a huge headache after my exam and can't seep. All I can say is that I dint know I was supposed to study every single JE for NFP and Gov. I always thought they never went into that much detail when it came to those two.

I'm happy that I am able to post here! 🙂

Yes. And I'm not the one to cry over tests, but when I got home my emotions were high. I was 80% sure that I failed and ended up with an 81. I couldn't believe it. Its true what people say about the sims, they completely tear you apart.
